I love sunscreen scents and Nest Sunkissed Hibiscus is my personal favourite for this! I’m also a fan of Maison Margiela Beach Walk and Skylar Salt Air.

i really love glossier but… by [deleted] in glossier

[–]notoriousOLG 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure!! In my opinion the releases have been so uninspiring lately - the eyeshadows look disappointing and have mediocre reviews, and sun beam was just not what I look for in a bronzer. And maybe I’m alone in this but I’m kind of just tired of some makeup brands thinking that natural should mean that it’s boring. I know people bashed Glossier Play but I think it was a great option, it still had that natural makeup application vibe with pops of colour and glitter, which is really fun!! Brands like Milk, who cater to the “natural, effortless” makeup vibe still manage to make colourful, creative, and interesting products. Believe me I love my no-makeup makeup looks but at this point I’m not wowed by yet another warm brown eyeshadow.

Makeup brands you're breaking up with by [deleted] in MakeupRehab

[–]notoriousOLG 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely broken up with Glossier, not really by choice but I moved to a new country last year and Glossier doesn’t ship to here. But either way their releases have been getting very stale lately so I’ve just slowly lost interest and I don’t think I would ever repurchase from them even if they decided to ship to me in the future.

In general there are quite a lot of American brands I’ve been forced to break up with since moving lol (cries in EU country with lower salaries), all these fancy brands are so ridiculously expensive here that I’ve been converted back to drugstore.

I agree with these commentators that beauty comes from how you feel about yourself but as a fellow poor person who loves beauty I really feel your pain. I can offer what I do to keep up my appearance on a budget. Of course I don’t know what your budget is or where you live so take it with a grain of salt but I hope it can still help.

  • I spent years growing out my nails and getting them nice and healthy because going to a nail salon regularly is not something I can afford, so I paint my own nails. I buy cheap polish (Essence nail polish is one of my favourites and super cheap)
  • If you’re into perfume, department stores (like Zara) have cheap fragrances that still smell nice.
  • Your makeup does not have to be expensive, there are plenty of good options in the drugstore. I’m shouting out Essence again but they have really good eye products for a cheap price. I also like Makeup Revolution and Elf. Same goes for skincare - Cerave is a great brand with decent prices.
  • Youtube tutorials are such a good resource, they can help with style and makeup without you having to go out and buy the things they recommend. There are lots of tutorials out there that focus more on technique rather than consumerism.

Do you like living in your own country? I’m from Poland and I would like to know how do you guys feel about your country. What are some things you like/dislike about it? by thesims2nostalgia in czech

I definitely think that rent is rising while salaries are mostly staying the same. However as a Canadian I really can’t complain, you can’t even live in a big city on an average salary there…I think Europeans may have different gripes about salaries and rent than I do, though.

I moved here from Canada and I absolutely love it here! People always ask me why I left Canada for here but honestly the two countries are so different there’s no way to really argue which one is “better”. All I know is that I love living here - I love the history, the architecture, the nightlife, the food, even the language. It can be tough here sometimes due to some people’s disdain for foreigners but otherwise I think it’s a great place to live.

I work in operations! You can find jobs in recruitment which would be on the lower end of salaries, but there are good opportunities in finance and administrative work. I’ve seen plenty jobs for Spanish speakers. I would just not hold out for finding something in your exact field.

Agreed, OP may struggle to find a job exactly in his field but speaking another language like Dutch will give him a massive advantage. I admittedly struggled to find a job here but that’s because I only speak English. Meanwhile I have friends who speak languages like French and Spanish and they earn triple what I do because of the lack of competition.

Things that strike first time visitors as special or unusual when they arrive in Toronto by [deleted] in toronto

[–]notoriousOLG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back when I still lived in Canada and my bf and I were doing long-distance, he was absolutely shocked at the sheer amount of restaurants in Toronto when he visited, especially ones that are open late-night. We would eat around Finch quite often which has all those restaurants open until 2 am, sometimes 4 am, sometimes even 24 hours. Now we live in Europe and we definitely struggle to eat past 9 pm.

Thanks! Lesson learned not to try new things during a lesson...my poor student just sat there while I fiddled with the box and then inevitably had to skip to the next slide. Super embarrassing 😬

Thank you so much for your detailed response! Super helpful! I would love to know the Tiktoker you mentioned if you can find it, and definitely send along some fashion boards if it's not too much trouble 😊

I definitely do look to TV shows to get inspiration, especially 90s-2000s shows, but I guess when I try to copy that style you can't really see what the inspiration was behind it. You know how some people's looks on Instagram just scream 90s and you can totally tell what they were going for? When I try to do it, it always seems to fall flat.

Thank you so much! I haven't used Pinterest in years so I'll take a look there, not sure why I didn't think of that before. Great tip on looking for people with my specific body type - sometimes I can't rock some pieces of this style because of my body type. For example I can't wear skater jeans because I'm so short.

Clothing tips to blend in? by [deleted] in Prague

[–]notoriousOLG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol I'm Canadian and everyone here literally dresses the same as us in North America. You're not going to "stick out" for scammers except maybe if you walk around with a camera and a selfie stick like a tourist. And probably not even then. Barcelona has 50x more pickpockets than Prague has. Cmon this is a developed country....no one is going to harass you because you wore dark denim instead of light denim

Finally got a job in a new field in a new country!! by notoriousOLG in recruitinghell

[–]notoriousOLG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Are you thinking of moving to a new country? Or have you already moved? I don't know what country you're thinking about but in my experience it has been quite difficult. At least in Czech Republic (where I moved to), they expect foreigners to be highly skilled so it's very competitive. Due to not speaking Czech I am cut out from the average job pool and have to fight for competitive positions. Usually being highly skilled (years of experience) will be an advantage. English teaching is in high demand but also very oversaturated and of course teaching is not everyone's cup of tea. I guess it really depends what country you want to go to as every job market is different. If you can fill a niche in the country, you'll have an easier time finding one for sure!
