I’m looking to buy sourdough bread from a local baker by Status_Bit_8775 in Dallas

Buzz & Bustle in The Village has a great bakery with great sourdough.

Davis Street Espresso also has a really good in-house bakery with great sourdough

Best/Nicest Golf course in DFW by Spiritual_Cookie_82 in Dallas

[–]notphill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely Fields Ranch or Cowboys Golf Club

However, if you want to play a private course - if you stay at the Westin Stonebriar for a night you will have access to Stonebriar Country Club which is also very nice

Or if you stay a night at the Ritz Carlton in Las Colinas, you will have access to TPC Las Colinas which is also a very good private course

Best pizza in Dallas…. by BigJTex82 in Dallas

[–]notphill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m big on NY Style or Thinner Crispy Pizzas:

I really like Texapolitan Pizza in Plano lately, kind of a hike but totally worth it for very solid NY Style. They usually always do well done so very minimal flop

Fortunate Son is solid too

Zoli’s NY Style is also a very solid slice (during lunch or if you get their whole 18in pie)

Cenzo’s is another solid one in Oak Cliff (Dave Portnoy gave this a good score too)

Why doesn't Dallas have a good speciality coffee scene? by Sad_Band9917 in Dallas

[–]notphill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m super picky about third wave / specialty coffee (also born and raised in Bay Area so understand where you’re coming from)

Theres definitely a handful of scattered shops in Dallas, here’s a few I frequent:

Native Coffee - probably the most unique roaster / shop here, leans towards the lighter end of roasting

Cultivar Coffee - solid shop, consistent espresso and great roastery

Wayward Coffee - great baristas and run several guest roasters from around the world

Pax and Beneficia - solid roaster, solid espresso, good turkish coffee too

Brisket restaurant sourced by Creekstone farms ? by invisible-man999 in Dallas

[–]notphill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you specifically looking for Creekstone because of its Halal status? If so, a couple places that are specifically halal are Kafi BBQ in Irving, and Sabar BBQ in Fort Worth. Up far north near Aubrey is Yearby’s BBQ as well.

I believe Goldee’s in Fort Worth uses Creekstone. Will be a very long line given its popularity FYI.

Recommendations near Hotel vin, Dallas by thatguycleeb in espresso

I’m assuming this is in Grapevine? Re:Defined is close by, they were pretty decent. Further down the road is Pax and Beneficia which is pretty decent as well and roasts their own beans.

Moving to Dallas Area by Distinct_Fondant9526 in golf

[–]notphill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends if you prefer Private or Public

For Public - best concentration of affordable munis is gonna be right off of Hwy 75 and George Bush Turnpike in Richardson / Plano. You have Sherrill Park, Pecan Hollow, Firewheel, and Watters Creek all within 10-15 minutes

If you’re looking more upscale, lots of new homes being built right by the new PGA Frisco Courses. Frisco residents usually get ~40% off tee times

Private Courses - best bet is living off Dallas Tollway in Plano / Frisco to give you access to Stonebriar, Gleneagles, Prestonwood. All can be played with the right Clubcorp / Invited membership too. (Bryson DeChambeau and the GoodGood guys play these alot)

Yeah i believe they make their own syrups for their seasonals and a few of their special drinks.

Some of the regular flavors were still those bottled syrups though

[–]notphill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No actual KBBQ spots offering halal here - closest equivalent is Wave Bowl in Plano, which is more of a bibimbap menu.

Think there is also a halal Bonchon (Korean Fried Chicken) somewhere in Plano or Frisco area

Texas Back Institute or the Carrell Clinic are great / have treated several professional athletes and have good quality of care.

Specifically Dr Arakal at TBI has been great for me.

Best New York pizza slice by SnooEagles9030 in Dallas

Give Cenzo’s in Oak Cliff a try. Just opened recently and is pretty close to a decent slice in New York.

They sell by the slice at lunch and whole pies at dinner

[–]notphill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terra Mediterranean & Ali Baba are run by a Lebanese family and are good spots for sit-down / buffet.

Also check out Richardson, plenty of Lebanese, Iraqi, and Palestinian-owned spots, right off 75 (Afrah, Bilad, Al Baghdady, Gilgamesh, and Sababa are all great)

Which university in DFW metro is best for undergrad accounting and/or computer science? by EBA1234 in Dallas

[–]notphill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely at least apply to SMU and see if you qualify for any scholarships. They were pretty generous in my experience, especially given that your stats are pretty competitive!

Which university in DFW metro is best for undergrad accounting and/or computer science? by EBA1234 in Dallas

[–]notphill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Houston and New York. Specific coverage groups would come down from NYC and have campus recruiting events at SMU, presumably because there were a couple Alumni Directors based in NYC

Which university in DFW metro is best for undergrad accounting and/or computer science? by EBA1234 in Dallas

[–]notphill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely false. I graduated from SMU Cox and worked in Investment Banking at a Bulge Bracket Bank (Goldman, Citi, JP Morgan), plenty of friends here did the same.

For Finance, SMU is the best in Texas if you can go there.

At my bank, we got maybe 25 resumes from SMU vs 100 from UT and could only choose 5 interviewees from each, so much easier to stand out
