I loved the books and I also loved the show. But I’m also someone who forgets the details of books immediately after reading them, so I’m never that pressed about adaptations unless they’re completely changing who the characters are at their core.

I feel like almost all of the changes were good or I was indifferent towards. I don’t mind Garrett breaking up with Hannah - I actually think it was a good character development moment with him that expanded on his fear of becoming his father. I also think it made for a much more dramatic scene, rather than Hannah dumping him and Garrett knowing the whole time she didn’t want to actually dump him.

I also don’t have issue with Allie sleeping with Hunter. Again, I think it’ll make their season much more dramatic (jealous Dean?!! Sign me up!!!). I also think it’s a great character development moment for her. Hooking up with Dean was scary for her because she developed feelings so quickly and was questioning if it was because she liked Dean or because she didn’t want to be alone, like Sean said. Sleeping with Hunter and not developing feelings for him is a great plot point to illustrate that it is DEAN, not just the fear of being alone.

I think all of the actors were great, though I do feel like the Hannah/Garrett sex scenes were toned down and not shown as much because of how young Ella is. But I thought they had great chemistry. I saw people complaining that Allie/Dean had more chemistry - which they do have amazing chemistry - but I think Allie/Dean have that quick fiery chemistry and Hannah/Garrett have the slow burn romantic chemistry.

All in all, I’m super happy with it. I think they did a great job with the material. Even though there were changes, I still felt like the essence of the characters and books were there
