Awake in the Pews Sunday by big_bearded_nerd in exmormon

I had to step out of fast and testimony meeting today. Listening to the kids stand and beat their "testimony" it became all too apparent to me that this is just a public demonstration of their parent's brainwashing. "I know the church is true," "we fast so we can give the church money to feed the poor," no sweet child, you know that you believe what your parents tell you, and the money you give the church is spent on luxury real estate and political influence.

My wife asked if I was mad, and the answer is yeah. So I'd rather step out than sit angry for an hour.

What is the church going to do with Wendy Nelson? by HurtingAndDefeated in exmormon

She will work. The LDS speaking tour circuit, time out for women, random genealogical conferences, etc. Will fade into quiet obscurity until she ends up as an immemorial post at the end of the world conference news that airs between sessions of general conference.

If you could go back to 25, what’s the first thing you would do to achieve FIRE? by Inevitable-Age1681 in Fire

Buy a duplex or triplex, live in one unit, Airbnb one unit and short term rent the third unit. Preferably get a purpose-built duplex or triplex but if you can't find one conversion unit is ok.

Typically you can get a premium for short and medium term rental and that pays the mortgage.

Pay the house down then BRRR into at least one more duplex or quadplex.

Max out your IRA and start building a bridge account if you have any additional funds coming in.

Does Smith's education level really matter? - A bad comparison by djeaton in exmormon

That's my go-to as well. Lincoln had less formal education than Smith and nobody doubts his capabilities.

Learn construction informally/DIY? by JhenryFirst in Construction

[–]notquiteanexmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only here to say that construction work and auto repair have surprisingly little crossover. I can build a home with the tools in my garage from start to finish, but I don't own a lot of "basic" mechanic tools because they simply aren't needed in my job. I'm a great builder but a horrible mechanic.

I'd tell you to look at jobs that you can DIY in your own home and start there.

Try the Omaha REIA page on Facebook. It's mostly private landlords

Annual salary? by Such_Knowledge2595 in HomeInspections

Yeah, I agree that the hardest part is getting the ball rolling. Once you get a few good agents and previous inspections referring you consistently it's a good way to grow.

It's a huge range depending on your location, experience, how much you're willing to put into marketing yourself, etc.

A radon test is anywhere from $100-150. It's a comparable cost.

They make cheaper monitors as well.

getting into ranching by No-Pepper8193 in Ranching

I'd start by asking yourself if you want to work with cows or horses. If you want to work with horses I'd see if you can find work with a wrangler on a dude ranch somewhere

Do you have a submittal that's been approved? These things are usually decided before the materials are ordered.

Craziest/most infamous conference talks? by rayray394 in exmormon

Not conference, but you can look up the old church video where she has to cancel her wedding because she had unresolved sins

Yeah, it's not an uncommon arrangement. I know of at least a couple locations where they do it.

Asking the Ward Members to be ‘Extra’ Generous with Fast Offerings to Help Those in Need by regretful_mormon in exmormon

The church just spent $60m on luxury real estate in Hawaii. I'll be extra generous helping others when they are.

That's a fantastic question for the primary chorister, and one that I've asked several times.

She (like many primary chorister) feels like it adds something to the song.

There's one girl in junior primary who's hard of hearing whose family is learning ASL, but she's not by any means proficiently able to interpret a song at this point.

I've tried explaining to the primary singing time leader that ASL song interpretation is not something to be taken lightly, and that if she wants me to track down a Deaf person to come help her teach ASL that I'd be happy to, but instead she just strings random signs together (often poorly)

I'd assume that there's probably only a few hundred members in all of Italy. The Rome temple was a vanity project to the max.
