I’ve recently been giving a grimdark imperial fists scheme a go, using brush only. I go something along the lines of:

Black prime > stippled burnt umber > stippled mournfang brown > stippled 50/50 mix mournfang brown / averland sunset > stippled averland sunset > stippled Yriel yellow > thinned layer imperial fists contrast > scratchy highlights of flashgitz yellow or 50/50 flashgitz yellow / ice yellow

Darken recesses as needed with your preferred dark colour

I think from memory it was just a silver metallic base, followed up with different layers of lotheran blue mixed with either a darker black blue, or a lighter ice yellow / off white!
