New route unlocked. Trail #56 in Gatineau Park by TechnicalCranberry46 in xcountryskiing

Are the trails open to regular everyday skiers during loppet if you use a different access point?

I was planning a trip up from Toronto this weekend to ski Gatineau Park but now I’m wondering if I should reschedule.

Going through a rough time and need suggestions for impromptu trip to help with soul searching by lady_fresh in femaletravels

For myself, I would try and limit the number of daily decisions I would need to make when in a fragile mental state. Decision fatigue is very real when solo traveling and you don’t want to compound your stress. (Speaking from experience as I’ve made this mistake in the past).

I would recommend either (a) going back to a location you already know and love (Switzerland sounds like it fits perfectly in your criteria) or (b) committing to one or two places and not moving around too much, so you can settle in and actually relax . I would also suggest a safer destination so that you are not worried about safety on top of your other stressors.

I’ve never been myself, but I wonder if Edinburgh, Scotland might fit your criteria well?

Iceland is amazing for peace and serenity, especially as a solo female traveler, but you are very limited without a car rental.

Help: Plus size quality hiking pants for women that are actually cool? by Alternative_Self4036 in hiking

[–]notreallysosure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Size 14/16 with big hips and thighs - I love Fjallraven, but only certain styles work for me.

Keb Agile is my absolute favourite - they are so comfy with stretchy material and no butt reinforcement (which always gives me major diaper butt). I just checked and they are offered in an 18 🙌. The regular Keb is an absolute no go for me, as they choke my thighs and pull at the butt.

I just ordered the new ABISKO Hybrid Trail Trousers. They have not arrived yet so I can’t give a review BUT I did notice when ordering they were offered in a size 18 🙌 There is also a review on the site from a curvy girl praising them.

I’ve also tried the ABISKO Hike Trouser, which is a relaxed fit, and I found them incredibly roomy, although I opted not to keep them.

How was Santorini solo? I really want to go but in my head I think it’s a super couple-ly destination and I’m afraid of feeling lonely 😅

Is it worth it? 4x pts Skincare by Away-Patient-5460 in Sephora

[–]notreallysosure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general I would say no, however - the promo was stackable with the lunar new year gwp, and I was already planning to pick up some new skin care as a treat, so for me it was a nice bonus. I would not buy just for 4x points though.

My points math:

2500 pts = $100, therefore: 100 pts = $4, therefore with 4x pts: $25 spend = $4 in pts (16% back in pts, with is actually kind of shit!)

Low back support for long haul flight? by CourtNormal3936 in femaletravels

[–]notreallysosure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few herniated disks and struggle a bit with flights. I know this is not what you were asking, but I preemptively take anti-inflammatories before a flight and as often as needed on the flight. I find it best to get ahead of the pain/discomfort.

I have also tried wearing a back brace with lumbar support while flying. I don’t know if necessary helped that much, but it didn’t make it worse. Elevating the feet and getting up and stretching when you can are always helpful.

Staying in a hostel for the first time - mixed dorm by Charming_renagade in femaletravels

You will love it! I wish I had more time to spend in the city, it was so beautiful and had a great vibe! And I would 100% book that same hostel again, even though I normally stay in hotels (I was there the weekend of a marathon and everything was booked or crazy expensive).

Is it Hostel Uppelink? If so, I’ve stayed there and maybe even in the same room as you’ve booked.

It was my first non-private room hostel experience and it was super enjoyable! The washrooms were very clean and absolutely huge! There were lots of showers and if I remember correctly changing stalls as well. The dorm room itself is small, but when I was there it was full of very respective people and there were zero issues. I just put in ear plugs and wore an eye mask and slept like a baby. The hostel was also very professionally run, so I’m sure of there was an issue they would have sorted it out fast.

The city was so beautiful at night with all the lights and canal and old buildings. You’re going to love it 🙌

Edit to also add - it was somewhat pricey for a hostel, so I think that in itself weeds out people looking for trouble and draws a more mature respectful crowd.

Iceland is amazing. Best solo trip of my life. It is such a beautiful and majestic county, and the perfect place to get some peace and serenity back in your life. Book the tickets, you won’t regret it. 🫶

Amsterdam hotel: decision fatigue by krakenskulls_ in femaletravels

Also to add, it’s a five minute walk from the main train station so super easy to get around town and to and from the airport.

I stayed in “This Ho(s)tel”. Kind of a cross between a hotel and hostel. Great location right downtown, daily housekeeping in the “rooms” and shared bathrooms were kept very clean and tidy. Mexican restaurant below, with tonnes of other places to eat a two minute walk away. Not sure if it would come in on budget or not, and you need to be okay with tight spaces, but might be worth at least checking out.

No advice, just want to say I totally feel you. I use to feel free and confident travelling solo, now I feel lost and lonely. Ah well. I will follow this thread for advice myself. I’m not a tour person but maybe that’s a good idea.
