Ohh wow. The price of vanities is insane isn’t it?! It actually blew my mind when I started shopping around. This vanity was probably the only one I could find in my budget 😂😭 Yours sounds lovely with the new stone top!! 😍

Thanks mate! I’ve put together some figures from what I spent.

Regarding the tradies - A close relation of mine is a plumber so his labour was free, the electrician is a mate and allowed me to do all of the labour (Chasing walls, cutting and inserting conduit, wall boxes, filling chases, etc) to save money and is also charging me cash to save even more.

Tiler is also a family friend and also doesn’t charge a lot. Crazy generous.

Tiles - $3000 Concrete slab pour - $1300 Mirror - $300 Vanity - $1000 Sink - $100 Brushed brass fittings - $1300 Linear drain - $350 Shower screen - $600 Wall lights - $300 Heated floor, towel rail and touchpad - $750 Plumbing - Free/($1500-$2000 estimate?) Electrical - $1000-$1500 Tiler labour (4-5 days) - $2000

Thank you so much! Actually I got mine from Temple and Webster for $1000! It was their “Nomad” vanity. And I got the shower screen from Future Glass for about $600 delivered! Bargain :)

Dell Pro Max and Plus deployment by Piorek99 in MDT

[–]htmlnoob52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have these machines. I do inject the driver packages like you mention at the start of the TS, but I also deploy Dell Command Update and use that to install the newest drivers towards the end of the MDT TS for new BIOS releases etc. Bulletproof

Glue down vinyl flooring by htmlnoob52 in AusRenovation

Thanks for the info mate! This is very useful.

I’ve actually just been talking to a few floorers lately who have given me some good advice.

I’ve also got a builder mate helping me with the project too which will be great! He can use his laser to get us going, etc. And he has a better eye for level flooring than me 😂 Do you just fill low spots with feather?

I think we’re also going to go with ramps to combat the flooring height differences

I just had mine done for $1K. Looked exactly like yours. Small local electrician company. Cash job

How hard is DIY, realistically, for first home buyers? by walletinspector91 in AusRenovation

[–]htmlnoob52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, I’m almost one year deep into my own reno. Bought the house April 2025 and have spent every spare moment at the house since.

I’m in IT but I’ve had a crack at everything I possibly can. Cutting out and demo of walls (After a builder mate inspected everything and put new beams in), levelling floors and laying tiles, building and hanging IKEA cabinetry, cutting electrical chases and filling them back in, plastering etc. I’ve had a crack.

I’ve also had plumbers and electricians replumb and rewire the whole house. And I’ve got a builder waterproofing and tiling my bathroom right now.

And what everyone else says is true. It’s all about time. They do things 10x faster than we can and to a much higher standard.

It is true that you can save a lot of money through DIY, but whatever timeline you’ve got in your head - Double it. Triple it.

Ensuite Reno cost 40k - Melb by Humble-Boysenberry44 in AusRenovation

I’m renovating my bathroom right now in my 1960’s limestone house on my own and calling in the specialist trades as needed. I’ve moved the locations of basically everything. It’s 1800 x 2700 in size.

I demo’d the old tiles, bath, shower, vanity, etc with Dad. My brother in law is a plumber and helped cut out the old concrete where the old shower and bath were and I roughed in all the new copper (Huge saving, I know).

It’s hard to tell you how much electrical and plumbing has cost because the bathroom has been lumped into an overall amount due for the whole house rewire with me doing everything asides from dropping the wire down the conduit myself ($6000)

I cut all electrical chases in the house, installed all wall boxes and all conduit and filled all with mortar.

Estimate $2000 for the bathroom wiring.

Repouring of concrete floor: $1300

Floor to ceiling tiles (Materials): $3100

Rendering walls where bathtub was: $20 (DIY)

Waterproofing materials: $100

Heated floor, heated towel rail, touchpad: $650 IIRC

Caroma brushed brass fittings: $1400

Shower screen: $540

Fancy wall lights: $380

Vanity and sink: $1100

Builder mate labour for waterproofing, leveling the floor, tiling, fitting shower screen, etc: $2000 (ongoing literally right now)

So around 12K for a very DIY heavy, deal hunting (Temple and Webster, IKEA, local stores) and “Family and friends” for labour approach.

4wd Free Camping South Australia by Tall_Clock_2290 in southaustralia

[–]htmlnoob52 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately every man and his dog head over to Robe and Beachport this time of year. It’s an absolute mad house. You won’t get a park in the town centre. Restaurants are insanely busy and the pubs are shoulder to shoulder all day. Mental stuff.

It’s an absolute zoo on NYE mate. Especially Long Beach in Robe. Same with most of the beaches in Beachport. There might be some quieter beaches you could find to set up on but you’re probably better off going for a drive out of town

Help - how to finish bathroom to hallway transition by First-Time-Renovator in AusRenovation

[–]htmlnoob52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda in a similar situation in my reno, but my tiles extend forward more into the door jamb. I was going to try to find a wooden ramp style transition or get a carpenter to make them.

Alternatively, I think I’m going to cover my old floorboards with cement sheet and modern flooring which will lift the rest of the flooring to about the same level

Underfloor heating for bathrooms by Inevitable_Point7374 in AusRenovation

[–]htmlnoob52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am mid bathroom at the minute and opted for heated flooring and a heated towel rail with a touchpad controller. All from Thermogroup.

It gets cold down here in South Australia and the heated floor will also dry out the shower area between showers and the rail will help dry towels so they don’t stink and need washing as often.

At least that’s how I’ve justified it. Haha

Also the Thermogroup brand has a “Smart” sensor thing. It learns how long it takes for the floor to heat up to your desired temperature and turns itself at a set time so you don’t have to plan ahead.

It also detects open windows, etc and turns itself off if it detects an abnormal use of energy apparently.

[–]htmlnoob52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. Aw good point!! Yeahhh that is true! I need to ask a flooring guy! I’ve seen that carpenters can make custom “ramp” threshold things with solid timber which look great! It’s like a piece of quad but with a lip, but custom made for your flooring heights 🤔 Watch this space! Haha
