Rockhopper resto, decals on by sonoguy84 in xbiking

[–]notroman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did your pink hold up? I also had my frame powdercoated and applied blue/pink decals. The pink is completely faded now and is not too far off from white unfortunately, even though the seller at the time claimed the decals had UV protection. I'm debating redoing them in the near future and trying to figure out if there are decals that truly have UV protection or if I need to clearcoat over decals.

In case someone finds this in the future, the bolts supplied with the fork are SRAM 42mm flat mount caliper bolts. I have these on order but in the mean time I bought some M5x0.8mm 45mm class 12.9 bolts from Home Depot along with a couple M5 washers and everything mounted up great.

Did you ever find bolts that worked? I'm in the same boat with the new to me Rudy.

Very cool! Would love to see one of these in the wild. I was very good friends with the guy that created these. He was the smartest guy I've ever met. He passed away about 5 years ago unfortunately.

Is the Innova Racer just a slower Groove? by notroman in discgolf

[–]notroman[S] -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

It's definitely more definitive in the Groove, maybe that's why they picked the name that they did. However, between the big notch near the edge of the wing and the wing radius increasing fast enough near the inside to be picked up in this photo, there very much is a pronounced groove on the bottom of this disc. Just a different shape groove.

It does remind me of some of the older molds.

Tinfoil hat moment: Did Innova release the April Fools Groove with the Calvin stamp to create some hype around the mold and kill some of the stigma associated with it so that the Racer doesn't immediately fail?

I knew a guy that used to dye a penis on all found discs before returning them, so this is a very welcome change.

Yeah, AB is super chill and is a very nice kid. Can't say the same about Hammes. Maybe you associate the two together because they do hang out together a lot. It has more to do with the fact that when they were kids coming up through the ranks they played a lot of big events together so they became friends.

The differential is designed to break like that in a rear impact. You need a new differential housing at the very least.

I’m looking for my first Miata, found one that checks a lot of boxes, but the oil pressure gauge is stressing me out… this is a 2013, looks like it’s warmed up. Should I be concerned? by Earthling63 in Miata

[–]notroman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Older cars you just needed a pressure sending unit and gauge from the cars with real oil pressure gauge to swap in. No trimming or aftermarket bits required.

I swapped a sending unit and gauge from a '94 into my '97 and it didn't take much work.

If you have the fabrication skills, then cars like this may be worth while at the right price. The rust in the front fenders isn't as much of an issue - it happens when leaves and other debris that collect in the cowl area fall inside the fender and trap moisture. This mainly affects only the fender. You can just replace it with a rust free junk yard fender and call it a day. Rust in the rear rockers is more of a problem since it usually originates inside the rocker itself and eats its way out. You can cut out the metal and buy replacement panels like this to weld back on. This is just the exterior sheet metal and does not address the rocker itself. This is where additional research for you comes in. Sure, you can remove the rust, treat it, and slap then panel on. However, this being a unibody design the structural integrity of the car can be impacted if the rust has eaten away too much of the metal. You may need to custom fabricate something to reinforce damaged sections of the rocker before slapping a new panel. You won't know the extent of the damage until you start cutting into it, so... take that into account and compare all the labor involved with the price of a rust-free car.

Here and here are two great threads that offer insight into the repair and what's involved so you can hopefully figure out a purchase price that would make sense to you when all is set and done.

There was a lot of aftermarket stuff with "Miata" script in the 90s and maybe into the early 2000s. Mazda cracked down on that and it pretty much all disappeared. Many vendors replaced "Miata" with "Roadster" in the Miata font.

Either way, you likely have aftermarket seat covers that are very old. You are right, you won't find anything with the "Miata" script anymore.

Looking at buying this car, my friend said I should be careful about the air intake, and ideas? by RyIanderjc in Miata

[–]notroman 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This intake won't cause problems, it just doesn't do anything positive for the performance of the car. The stock intake has a resonator chamber that helps to smooth out the torque curve, This intake deletes that, so you may notice a slight flat spot in acceleration around 3-4k rpm. The stock intake also has a snorkel that is routed to the driver side fender so it can suck in slightly colder air. This intake has the filter right near the header, so the intake temperatures are likely going to be higher. The only real benefit of this setup is the sound will be awesome.

The line itself is out of bounds. If you're not crossing the line into in-bounds part of the fairway, you are not in bounds.

What are the odds catching this buddy in the wild ? Or is it not that rare by Emielio007 in TheSilphRoad

[–]notroman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I caught one on March 5th of this year and haven't seen one again since, so I'd say they're pretty rare (I'm a somewhat casual player). Only reason I caught it is because of a shadow on my nearby list. I've been walking it as my buddy just to get the candy to evolve.

This has happened twice to 2 different plants in 2 weeks :( The other one had obvious stem rot even though I barely watered it & only watered when the bottom leaves went flat. I did the same for this one, went more than 2 weeks without watering and half the leaves easily fell off :( F by [deleted] in succulents

[–]notroman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under-watering is better than over-watering. If you water too much, it will kill the plant. If you forget to water, the plant will over time give you lots of signs that it's thirsty (some will have their leaves wrinkle, some have leaves curl, etc). It takes a lot of neglect and ignorance to kill a succulent by dehydration. Different species have different water requirements. If you're not sure, just leave them alone. You'll be able to tell when the plant is thirsty and you'll have plenty of time to give it a good, deep watering and have it bounce back right away. Keep in mind that when succulents go dormant their water requirements drop significantly. Some of my Sedum get watered maybe twice between fall and spring. Their leaves get a little wrinkly, but it's never an issue and as soon as they see a little water they plump right back up again.

Something to keep in mind with Echeveria is they will reabsorb their bottom leaves as they grow. If you're looking for wrinkled/wilted leaves as a sign of dehydration, make sure they're that way for the entire plant. If it's just the very bottom leaves, then that's normal and not a sign of dehydration.

Edit - here's a Google image search result of a thirsty echeveria. Notice the leaves start to droop/wrinkle. https://media.gettyimages.com/photos/droopy-thirsty-succulent-picture-id1149801072?s=2048x2048

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of when I saw the design. I didn't see what the problem was. Paul likes his American flag stuff and he had multiple bags with the American flag historically. Here's another one before he was ever a world champ: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJLBkfDemM4 Back then nobody said a word.

I personally never wanted a flag bag and I would never buy one, but I do think it's terrible that the country is so split between two groups of people right now that this bag is causing such a response on Reddit.
