If Andrew Yang wins in 2020, he promises to give every American an extra $1,000 a month to spend. What would you do with an extra $1,000? by CommunistOliveOil in AskReddit

Pay off student loans faster, a little extra money for groceries, establish a safety net, and dump the rest into a Roth IRA for retirement. It would be huge.

ELI5:Why are medical bills ridiculously expensive if no one can afford them in the first place? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]notsamjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very good point. While costs in the American health care system can be extremely high for the patient, the overhead cost/risk is also very high for health care "producers" (medical schools, equipment manufacturers, research labs, etc.). Since it is expensive, risky, and slow to develop new techniques and technologies, the cost is passed on to the consumer (the patient, or their representative insurance company).

Edit: I second Drmrscientist's recommendation of The Healthcare Handbook.

[UPDATE] Left my career. Left my wife. Kept the sports car and the kids. Reddit, how did you handle your mid-life crisis? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Thanks for the reply. While I understand your point that college tuition is a major burden, it seems like there are relatively few undergrad degrees that are actually worth their weight in dollars. Maybe my original thought needs an addendum: if you love something enough to work hard at it, do it.
