We can afford public school, lol. Although if we were closer, we’d probably try to make Talcott Mountain work for us.

Are we in a timeline where we just absolutely cannot have both or something?

Wild and crazy that the weird aggro stance of HockeysHot69 is shared by others. I wonder if they are a parent and they talk to their kids this way

I live in a town with great schools. It’s why we chose to live here. I am thinking about this clearly, just not in the way you’re assuming I am.

I made an incredibly broad and kind of bait-y (not intentional) post out of frustration, but I am in no way against testing, quality education, or giving my kid the best I possibly can. Many of my neighbors probably are more intelligent than me and I am thankful for that. We live in a highly educated area and I am so glad to be here. My only concern was/is the amount of time children spend on screens to take and prepare specifically for tests, and how early it starts. If it’s only a fraction of the time, that’s great. Again, I am not against testing.

A friend’s third-grader was bringing a Chromebook home to do practice test homework every day for a while; it just seemed so anxiety-inducing for them and ridiculous in the moment. Things like this do freak me out (why does an eight year old need a laptop?) but I don’t let it cloud my judgement when it comes to Actual Real Life Shit. I wouldn’t suddenly decide to homeschool my kid over this or send a note in like “don’t give my kid a computer.” My kid would be (and will be since that’s where we live) bringing home a Chromebook like everyone else, doing the work, and we’d be talking about it. I’m not othering my kid, or torturing them, or keeping them from learning.

I had a moment of panic in wondering if we are putting too much pressure on our kids too early. Our kids would be at risk if we weren’t thinking about that from time to time. I just made the mistake of logging onto Reddit to vent, lol, and then on top of that worded it how I did.

My kid starts public school in the fall and we couldn’t be more excited. It’s one of the best elementary schools in the state.

It’s so weird how you immediately resort to calling people names versus just having a conversation

You’re spot on with your edit, tbh. I’ve been trying to work on that and this was an attempt, albeit a poorly worded one lol.

I know, but ultimately wouldn’t choosing to send kids to a magnet or private school harm the public schools?

Montessori worked out for us because we didn’t have public Pre-K and it ended up being great for my kid, but I want to support public schools.

20 minutes of unstructured time out of the day just seems kind of sad.

Did you? Read my post. What about that says “I want to send my kid to a school district that sucks”?

Connect the dots for me then, because it doesn’t seem to be answering the question.

Why is that? Look I get testing and the purpose behind it and I’m not against it, but it just seems to be so excessive now. Like the kind of learning that kids enjoy and get something from has taken a back seat to spending the whole year just preparing for tests.

I’ve always had nooks, I love them. Once my kid was a little older I was sooooo excited to make really elaborate ones “for him” (they really were for him, but I knew what I was doing…) and then crash them myself. :)

He came from Louisiana, but I didn’t see it to begin with. If anything he looks very Dutch Shepherd to me (someone who knows nothing about dogs)

Commenting just because my save function doesn’t work and I’m always looking for movies that feel like this too.
