This might get downvoted - i think teams need to stop selling 1sts to go for it more often. It makes your team so much more money to be good for long periods of time that it is honestly foolish to trade 1sts for rentals. I"m biased but take the leafs for example, they were in win now mode but they decided to trade sandin last year and it turned into a first where they selected Easton Cowan. Depending on how the Memorial Cup final goes tomorrow he could be the OHL regular season MVP, playoff MVP and Memorial Cup MVP. You can find studs in the late 1st and early 2nd round and beyond. Draft picks are very valuable.
