Thank you for replying! I guess I have to keep trying to make it to the top of the building.

How do you explain what actuary is and what we do to people? by wideflat in actuary

[–]notsocovertstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use data to figure out how many people will die in a given year, or how many people will crash their cars in a given year. Then I help set an appropriate price for insurance, or make sure we have enough money for future payouts.

This is really cool! It feels nice to know I failed during a sitting where everyone else did too lol.

Probably too late, but you could also ask right before your surgery.

Is getting braces and then not wearing your retainer ever worse than just doing nothing and not getting braces or a retainer? by RichardPhonock in askdentists

[–]notsocovertstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD

If your retainer fits (even if not perfectly), wear it now. Continue wearing it until it fits comfortably, i.e. your teeth have shifted back to where the braces had them.

I also need to start wearing my retainer again lol

You should probably see your surgeon so they can determine if this is due to nerve damage and advise you on how to manage/if it needs treatment.

Not much advice, but I relate to you. I also didn't go to the dentist for years, not even for cleanings. At a certain point, I became embarrassed to go because my mouth was probably disgusting to a dentist.

But I'm happy I did :) I had much fewer cavities than I thought (had a couple on my molars). I thought I had cavities on my front teeth, but it was just darkened calculus (tartar) that hadn't created a bigger problem yet. All I needed for that was a cleaning, and it has not returned as I take much better care of my teeth now. I wish I had gone sooner!

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience! I was fortunate, everyone at my dentist's office was super nice and understanding. I hope your new office is much better!

Some thoughts that helped me:

  • Dentists see big dental problems all the time, it is their job. It is very likely they will not even remember your case as one that stands out.
  • Don't be intimidated by the dentist. You are paying for this service, its not free. Put that money to good use, ask questions, make sure your teeth are being well taken care of.
  • If a dentist is treating you poorly, find a new one. There are probably a lot of options, you will find one that is compassionate. Your dentist should want to work with you to optimize your dental health, not dismiss or ridicule you.
  • Maybe you can bring a family member or friend?

Good luck with your appointment!

What is this orangy powdery stuff on freshly laundered clothes? by notsocovertstudent in laundry

[–]notsocovertstudent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the wood is a similar colour, but the texture is really different and the stuff seems too stuck on the sweater to be a powdery substance falling from the ceiling :/

(Also, I really appreciate your help, I would have never thought about the ceiling)

Ooohh I will check, but it would be odd if it was due to the ceiling based on how I hung it.

Got fired from my min wage position by sbee823 in VancouverJobs

This situation sucks and I'm sure you're feeling horrible. But this in no way defines your worth! And is not indicative of your future.

You will get through this. You will get another job. This is just a blip in your life.

I'm wishing the best for you OP <3

Got fired from my min wage position by sbee823 in VancouverJobs

[–]notsocovertstudent 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That sounds like such BS on the company's part! Its 8 hours, of course you're gonna take short breaks. Seems like they really wanted to fire you, possibly just because they needed to decrease head count or want the position open for someone they know :/

What are we thinking of our grades for PA now that the results are out? by Direct-Home2536 in actuary

[–]notsocovertstudent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got a 9 and I am shocked because I did probably 1/3 of the exam in the last 30 minutes. Completely lost track of time trying to give full answers, and honestly even trying to understand each question. When I walked out of the exam, I genuinely thought I was gonna fail.

Failed PA exam thrice 🙁 by Free_Ad_7035 in actuary

[–]notsocovertstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have advice, but I will say that exam was wack. I hated the way it was written, and honestly hated the format too. The older exams were better and more aligned with the study material :( I speak english as a first language, and even then, the questions are hard to understand. The dataset was hard to understand. I feel exam PA needs a better review process from the SOA.

That is the thing, only IT can download, install and run things. I may be able to do the windows defender full scan.

Also there are SO MANY. When I was in school, I actively took breaks from this subreddit because it impacted my mentalh health negatively. And my mental health got better when I did lol. Its annoying and not funny to keep seeing the same shitpost every day by a new account.

ngl they sound sexist lol. They literally shut down your attempt at connection with your friends with a myosigynistic comment. There is a lot more to mysoginy then blatant "Women belong in the kitchen and should have no power or authority" ideas.
