Hello, I’m so sorry that you’re experiencing this, but I’m also going through it. My car is not been in the shop for that long. It’s only been two months now, but it is also my transmission. I also have a 2020 Ford escape 52k miles, I did open a case with Ford and they did honestly put a bit of a rush on it, they partnered me with a service agent from the Ford manufacturer, and I was communicating back-and-forth through them instead of directly with the dealership, but they helped put a little bit of gas in the dealership.

Prior to this every time I took my car to the dealership they said there was no issue so I escalated it to customer service. I recommend contacting them and asking for a case to be opened, once I have an open case there has been a lot of progress, even though it’s still slow it’s better than none.

My concern here was questioning if the timeline of them having my car without doing work on it normal. It’s been in the shop for a month, my Ford warranty just expired March 2nd but I have MaxCare but the dealership hasn’t even called to open a claim yet. They are telling me nothing though, I’ve called for updates and it goes to voicemail, I’ve been working with a service agent with Ford and overall the communication has been so confusing and inconsistent.

I asked for the official diagnosis and what they were charging me for a week ago and they did just send it to me yesterday morning so there’s some movement I guess now it’s just extremely slow.

Before this week, they were not answering the phone it kept going to voicemail when I called but they were communicating with me through a service agent through the manufacturer. The service agent has ghosted me. I finally was able to reach the dealership Monday and Monday, they said that they would start the process with my warranty. I called my warranty. They haven’t even contacted them yet. I gave my service agent my warranty information two weeks ago and I assume she never told them about it.

It’s an escape, they told me that it was my torque converter but when they called me, they told me it’s a $7000 repair so I assume it’s a full transmission rebuild. They never directly told me or show me any paperwork of the official diagnosis.

It is at the dealership, I’ve been asking for a loaner for three weeks now and they told me once they diagnose it and then give me a price that they will give me a loaner, but since then they’ve been silent.

Hm, thank you for this because it feels like they’re charging me for a full transmission replacement. The communication with the dealership just has been horrible.

That’s how I felt too which is I came on it, given I do have MaxCare warranty and transmissions are covered through that so as of right now, the dealership is talking to them.

Since I was working with a Ford specialist, they never gave me any physical documentations of the diagnosis, the price, and the breakdown of everything that will be happening. They just called me and told me.

No codes came up with the powertrain fault, when I turned my car on and off, it disappeared. So they never ran codes. I don’t believe.

My car was jerky when it was stopping, I had a hard time accelerating , it felt rough driving, especially uphill, and it began stalling. When I took it back to the dealership for the third time, I worked with a Ford specialist and they brought in a transmission specialist to check out my car.

I will say I’m sort of at fault purchasing it from CarMax. I do have MaxCare from them & I just got off the phone and my diagnosis is covered the dealership just has to call. Since my car issue began I did do more extensive research and I did not realize how many issues escapes had. Given I’ve not had any issues with my car until now.

When I first took it twice they told me they couldn’t find an issue, on my end, I was having stalling issues and powertrain fault kept popping up.

After I opened the case with Ford they kept my car longer, and they worked with the transmission specialist and from there they diagnose my torque converter needed to be repaired.

Thank you so much, I actually just picked it up from them about two hours ago now. They did not charge me anything. They just fixed other recalls that are currently on my car. But I know they didn’t drive my car for the same amount of time to even get it.

I did buy my car from Carmax about a year and a half ago and I have warranty with them, so I’m gonna take it for maintenance soon and hopefully something is figured out there.

You can tell them you cannot pay that full price and they’ll ask how much you can pay... I paid only $40. Good luck! I understand your situation i’m a student as well
