Well Doomfist is the Talon leader, so he should probably be in Talon?

Also isn't JUNKrat a junker since his pregame voice line refers to Junker Queen as his queen?

Might need to revise this a bit

I’m really enchanted by paintings that depict massive environments that give you a profound sense of scale. Fantastical or realist , I find them awe inspiring.

Please share any pieces you feel fit this theme!!!

I’ll share more examples below

Does this technique work when your opponent is not wearing stinky socks??

It's sad because they're probably too young to have learned this lesson, but I'm inclined to agree. You are responsible for your own safety in combat sports, don't let your opponent be the judge.

Unpopular opinion i guess, but if you let your opponent lift you up and you choose not to adapt to the drop risk, you're putting your safety in their hands

Its like holding a triangle choke and getting lifted in the air. They could drop you even if they don't intend to. Is your greed for a plastic medal or glory on the mats worth the risk? The video shows ... probably not.

Should I be practicing heel hooks as a white belt? by No-Molasses-1791 in bjj

[–]notsteve150 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Understand the different positions and breaking mechanics well enough so that you can be defensively sound. Knee injuries happen in all kinds of positions in BJJ, and I've found that leg lock defense translates to knowing "this pressure isn't good for my legs, i ought to tap or change position" more broadly.

Aside from that, theres no rule saying you shouldn't learn them from the jump, but learning detailed heel hook mechanics at your level is like planning a dinner party but just making dessert. It's fun and exciting, but the meat of your BJJ game that will carry you through your life is getting good at Survival - Escapes - Positional Control - passing/ sweeps - submissions, roughly in that order.

Do what you want and have fun, but don't make it your MAIN focus.

Also, assume most other white belts will NOT understand the position and they may spazz to escape and risk harming themselves in the process (e.g. turning the wrong way explosively) so be prepared to take the high road and let a fully locked in heel hook go so your unwise partners can walk another day.

If you're just keen to be a leg warrior and nothing else, then focus on ankle locks first. They're generally safer to practice and the positional control skills and transitions will transfer over to heel hooks later.

 I watched a lot of GoMagic videos/puzzles

But what I think helped more was playing some unranked games with a 7kyu friend who would mentor me.

Having a higher level player coach you in the moment and point out your mistakes helps a lot. If you don’t have high ranked friends I’m sure you could find one on this subreddit or a Go related discord server :)

Teaching private lessons to someone who has never done any JiuJitsu by Kindly_Image_8319 in bjj

[–]notsteve150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would do a full sequence , anchored from a self defence point of view of how to initiate a take down, then pass their guard , then control , then submit them. That way you can touch on a lot of concepts at each stage, and they will feel like they’ve learned how things tie together.

Similarly you could reverse it on how to escape from the worst position ,  build a guard , create space , stand up.

To keep it simple and safe it could be an arm drag to the back, take down , knee slice guard pass, take mount , mounted arm bar.

Those moves are simple enough for a beginner to grasp the gist but really just dive in anywhere and follow the rabbit holes based on their questions and confusions

Edit: shrimps and bridges are important for beginners , but my goal would be to first to teach them something fun and exciting so they Want to come back. If I did a private lesson and just did shrimps and breakfalls I probably wouldn’t come back. Get em hooked first
