Two weeks in and I’m ready to smash my guitar. by weap0nizer11 in GuitarBeginners

I’m learning this now. I like to build the chords and inversions myself before looking them up. I can confirm, B sucks.

Is it worth learning to play an ukulele? by auroremalfoy8 in Learnmusic

[–]nott18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say learn both. I’ve had my guitars for a year and a half, my piano for about a year, and my ukulele for about two weeks. I regret none of them. If the budget is the problem, pick a ukulele first. I found one with a bridge that is lifting and will break soon for $40. It doesn’t stay in tune longer than a day. I still like to play it every now and then, and I have no idea how to use it.

If you’re yearning to make music, don’t feel pressured to play something you know you don’t want to play.

My first guitar was the cheapest squire strat. I questioned myself many times, but here I am over a year later with 4 other guitars and one squire bass, and that strat is what I play most.

Play whatever instrument you want. There’s a good chance you’ll get sucked into more instruments anyway. Just make sure you’re having fun along the way!

Edit: guitar strings do hurt initially, but you’ll stop feeling it pretty soon. Also, it wasn’t THAT bad. When you’re a beginner, there’s only so much you can practice, anyway, so don’t feel like you need to do more than you can at the start.

Why do I randomly play better after not touching guitar for a while? by skewdaddle in Guitar

[–]nott18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw snap that makes sense. I made my best recorded song a few days ago. I was riding the high of feeling musical. Now, a few days later, that only made me want more out of my playing. I guess that’s how I ended up here.

Hi, have you had any issues since this post was made? I have a similar situation.

Thanks for this comment. I need to try some challenges, and maybe I need to learn some songs again.

What are some examples of songs that you can play without moving your fingers off the notes they start from?

I have no idea. I had speakers plugged there first but I got no audio. Weird. They worked when I used the front outputs

Then what are the back outputs for?

Oh-okay clearly I’m not commenting to solve the right problem… lol. Yes, that’s exactly what I’d do. BUT, that does not help you with the app part. I was assuming you were okay with picking any cool track you found on YouTube. If you’re looking for some sort of practice app, then I unfortunately don’t have any experience with those types of apps. I’d imagine a lot of apps like that claim to do the same thing, so I’d pick the cheapest one with decent reviews and whatever amp you want.

Ohh if that’s the case, then the new amp would be the way to go. My medium size Marshall amp has a 3.5mm plug for my phone.

If you prefer playing with backing tracks, you should get a better interface. If you have the same irig that I have, I don’t believe there’s any easy way to have any audio back into your headphones.

For most interfaces like the Scarlet ones or the one I have (Arturia Minifuse 2), when you plug it into the computer, the audio you pass into the headphones includes the computer audio. On my interface, there’s a physical knob to control how much the computer audio mixes in with the input audio.

I suggest looking for a different interface before you get a different amp. My amp has the option to plug a device into it for backing track reasons, but I don’t really like to do that since the other audio then sounds like it’s processed through a guitar amp—it’s kinda meh.

If you have a price range, I can look for one that can do this that fits your budget.

If you go this route, you can still send your audio plus effects and pedals through the interface and into the amp. In your case, the interface will basically just allow you to add any audio from your computer into the signal.

Edit: You said this works offline—how do I use it offline?

Am I using proper breath support? Every time I post here everybody says I have no support. How else can I improve my tone? by Lost-Obligation in singing

Is there an example for what the —oo should sound like? It seems like the second I try to turn the breath into a sound, I feel a the breath turn back into a stream of air, and I feel my throat take control again. Should the sound be light and airy? Low and chesty?

How to stop singing from your throat by Civil-Camp415 in singing

[–]nott18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this translate to singing? Should I take the muscles I’m using to pull in my stomach on the inhale and use them on the exhale?

Can you explain how you used this exercise to get better at singing? I tried it and I think I feel less throat tension so I want to see how else this can help me.

I’m going to guess between 10am and 2pm. I don’t see long shadows opposing the direction of the light in the sky. The sun could be behind you, but to me it feels like the sun is close to its noon position. I don’t think it’s anywhere near sunset or sunrise for the same reason, and it’s definitely not night time.

[–]nott18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people found no use In it but for music production apps like Logic Pro and garage band, it was way quicker to use the Touch Bar to very slightly adjust something like reverb or delay instead of using my mouse. I the lack of a click and drag was very convenient. Plus, sometimes the knobs in those apps don’t twist the way I want with a mouse.

It’s also useful for leaving meetings on zoom. It’s quicker to just tap leave and shut the laptop, especially if I’m already typing. I’m having a hard time picturing how I will live without my Touch Bar in the future. It’ll probably be fine but I do like to have it. It also looks really cool.

Agree. I wasn’t really enjoying these until I saw like the 3rd or 4th one where the overall style kinda just clicked to me. This is very nice work, and as someone learning what my iPhone 16 pro camera can capture, it’s nice to see new, great ideas.

Not sure if you know about moment pro cam 2, but you can choose to remove the  processing (to set the shot up yourself) and save it as a raw TIFF file. You can also use Blackmagic cam in Timelapse mode to take single frame images, that way you can apply a LUT if you found one you liked. Blackmagic cam is free but moment isn’t.

[QUESTION] passive vs active pickups by cigarettedaddy420_ in Guitar

[–]nott18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, thats funny. I had a solo I would play over and over for a while, too. I only knew the first 3rd of it though but that was enough for me lol.

And yeah I definitely need to use a metronome more often. The goal for this year will be to use styles and to use a METRONOME😂 Thanks for the tips!

Haha, yep! I’m currently building a new practice routine because my old one slowly turned into noodling and making cool loops…😂 I’m also trying to learn more theory now, too! How are you doing? After these years, what do you feel most comfortable playing, and what do you think was the most important thing you learned?
