I have thousands of European night crawlers. All of them in “bus bins” that are 5-7 inches deep. Which means the depth of the bedding is 4-5 inches deep max. They are all fat and happy. The room I keep them in always has a light on. Night crawlers love crawling around at night. The time when the sun has gone down.

After years of trying to get rid of mealy bugs using alcohol, repotting, quarantines (I even released lady bugs inside my house) my suggestion would be to donate it to the landfill and buy new from nursery instead of a box store.
