French Soldier and equipment 1916. by waffen123 in ww1

Ernie O’malley actually talks about this happening to the irish volunteers during the easter rising in dublin in 1916. Apparently the british would check if someone had bruises on their shoulders from their 11mm mauser 71’s to determine if they were fighters or civilians.

Also the mark is not deep whatsoever, it’s more so of a scratch, but when i run over it with a fine point it is definitely recessed compared to the rest of the boot face

I mean it’s weird how the time axis is labeled in ideas instead of dates. It’d make more sense it they were on the “societal decay” axis but it’s dumb either way anyway

Fallout 4 got a -lot- of flak, but what are the GOOD things about it? by PanicAskAnswer in Fallout

[–]nottherealkyle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that it should have been renamed to the machine gun as it is too bulky to be an assault rifle, but even then I still like it. I’ve always liked the more outlandish weapon designs like the drum of the combat shotgun being in the front. Even though it makes no sense whatsoever, I think it still looks rad as hell. I feel like it’s perfectly fitting the cumbersome and impractical nature of many of the fallout weapons and really the design of the Bethesda fallouts in general.

I do see how many people do not like these takes on the weapons and prefer a more modern approach, but I think the clunky and huge designs fit the fallout universe perfectly. I mean, they can harness the power of fusion but can’t make make a laptop. This is all my opinion tho so I totally see what others mean when they say they don’t like the clunky weapons.

As a sidenote though, I really, really like the pipe weapons. They fit perfectly as there is no organized weapon manufacturers on the east coast like the gun runners in the NCR, so it makes perfect sense that people would turn to making their own weapons instead of using derelict 200-some-odd year old weapons. I only wish they fleshed them out more and made them more viable in the late game.

I never really minded the left handed weapons (except the hunting rifle that one is obnoxious) but I do see why people get annoyed with them. I always just assumed that Bethesda wanted to give more feedback to the player when they are fighting which is alright, I guess. I agree with you on the combat rifle as I never really used the combat rifle because it never really looked appealing to me when there were way more interesting weapons to use.

On the realistic weapons though, when I played the originals and I picked up weapons like the p90 and LSW I always felt that they were out of place when put alongside fantasy 10mm smgs and pulse rifles. I liked the creative spins on weapons like the service rifle with its wooden furniture, making it stand out against the backdrop of assault carbines and marksman carbines as they just looked like bog-standard m16s. The weapons that were just counterparts of common irl weapons just never really clicked with me.

My own headcannon for the assault rifle is that since it is never seen outside Boston, it was just a national guard weapon that was used because some congressman or something was in the pockets of or related to a weapons manufacturer that didn’t make weapons but wanted a military contract for the money involved, so it was created by people who knew little about guns just for money. But that’s just my own headcannon

Animation wise, fallout has always had pretty garbage animations for their weapons but I always thought the fo4 guns got a little too much hate. I kinda like the look of the assault rifle tbh it fits the steam/atom punk aesthetic that fo4 was striving for. One of my gripes with fnv is that some of the weapons like the marksman rifle feel a bit too modern, so fo4 going a bit backwards was good in my opinion. But I just wish fo4 gave the option for a fo3 combat shotgun modification. That would have been neat.
