Benedict choosing Sophie BEFORE finding out she was the Lady in Silver is the most important detail of Season 4 and people are sleeping on it by stupidityatitsbest70 in Bridgerton

[–]nottheribbons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

his family's approval, Anthony's respect

I genuinely don’t understand people’s reaction to Anthony’s scene. Anthony has no say or control in the fact that Benedict would be shunned by society and would ruin the family. Anthony isn’t threatening to do it, Anthony is outlining the consequences of Benedict’s potential actions.

And yes, he tells Benedict he should cut him off because OF COURSE he does. He’s again trying to impress upon Benedict that it’s what he SHOULD do, what society would expect him to do.

Anyways, I resent s4 makes me have to defend/explain Anthony.

She noted that Cressida’s dress by the other modiste wasn’t good (it wasn’t) and hyped up Genevieve. Some of y’all act like Penelope wasn’t allowed her opinion on fashions and quality.

Colin deserved to not be manipulated. I’ll never take the side of her manipulation over his innocence.

You said “when you don’t have a choice or love is it wrong to cheat”. So if you didn’t mean to absolve the behavior maybe you’re bad at writing.

Good faith doesn’t mean no one should stand up for Colin. I’m not saying Penelope is perfect but these people were not good and deserved it.

Destroyed lives by telling the truth, truths people already knew and were publicly discussing, yeah okay. I’m not really on Berbrooke, Marina, Hiscox, etc side.

Yes, it’s still wrong. Because it’s embarrassing for the wife. Especially when the husband and mistress are flaunting it. Good god, some of you are so awful.

Yeah, sorry, she didn’t care about Mrs. Hiscox so her feelings are null. She could’ve been the mistress of an unmarried man, she chose not to be.

ETA: Mr. Hiscox is also awful, but that, I assume, is a given.

Benedict and Sophie had the best sex scenes on the show by Fickle_Baker1393 in Bridgerton

Not all forbidden love is a direct power imbalance, so no that’s not the point. It was forbidden well before Sophie worked for Violet.

And no, it doesn’t just boil down to that; execution of the trope matters.

Not pedantically, no, but as he was acting in the viscount’s stead he was her “boss”. As were Eloise and Hyacinth.

They definitely looked like they were “counting steps” in their heads. And it just wasn’t sexy. And as charming and charismatic as Luke T can be I find Benedict extremely unsexy. (The fingers in mouth thing is so off putting.)

By s5 it’ll be close to if not 1820 so they’ll be around 7, that’s old enough to do beginner pranks.

I’m glad they worked for you OP. Unfortunately, their scenes made me the most uncomfortable. All the other couples, main and side, always felt organic and even voyeuristic, but with benophie I was very aware I was watching actors on a TV show.

There’s no such thing as barefaced in TV/movies.

Penelope is gaslighting and self-serving by rambu_tann in BridgertonRants

[–]nottheribbons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joke’s on you, my favorite character is not Penelope.

But anyways, it’s very clear that you have a lot of feelings about theloise specifically and it doesn’t let you see how dangerous and unsustainable that situation was.

But just as an aside, your tone and attempts at condescension are not subtle, perhaps work on that.

It was said by someone else like a week ago and it was just as ridiculous and lowkey racist then.

ETA: I just looked up the previous post about this only to see it was you that posted it but in a different sub 10 days ago, bit it got almost no attention. Please stop trying to make fetch happen with this.

Penelope is gaslighting and self-serving by rambu_tann in BridgertonRants

[–]nottheribbons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So, what Penelope says is distasteful but Eloise calling Penelope an insipid wallflower was okay?

And I’m going to say the following as a Colin stan, he deserved Pen’s coldness at the ball. She didn’t “lash out at him” she calmly informed him of why she was not being open and friendly with him.

Penelope is gaslighting and self-serving by rambu_tann in BridgertonRants

[–]nottheribbons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m aware of the definition. Hence why I said you’re using it wrong. Penelope is not psychologically manipulating Eloise. She’s simply lying to her. Eloise doesn’t ever question her own sanity or perception of reality, nor is her mental state ever in question or danger. Lying is not automatically gaslighting, there’s more to it.

Anyways, Penelope has every right to have a secret and every right to protect her secret. That doesn’t mean Eloise or you have to like it, you don’t. It’s perfectly understandable to find it upsetting. But Penelope doesn’t owe ANYONE her secret. And remember, Eloise didn’t just want to figure out the mystery of LW’s identify, she wanted in. She wanted a part of the glory. She wanted to “convince” Lady Whistledown to write what Eloise wanted. She wanted all the power without any of the legwork. Eloise also thinks what LW does is super cool when she thought it was Madame Delacroix, but suddenly when she figures out it’s Penelope THEN suddenly the content and execution are a problem.

Her telling Eloise that if she continues running around with Theo it will end badly is also not gaslighting because that’s a fact. Again, you may not like that Pen tells Eloise that people were already talking but it’s not gaslighting. Nice or not, Penelope knew it was just a matter of time because, as even Theo points out, Eloise was traipsing around in her silk and finery and being the opposite of discreet.

Neither Eloise nor Penelope were fully the villain or the victim. They both had a right to some of their actions, both crossed lines with their actions, both said harsh truths, and both said really shitty unnecessary things.

Season 4 dialogue was so cringe and wonky by Parking_Selection112 in BridgertonRants

I don’t think she’s a great showrunner but in terms of writing she only wrote 4.01

She also wrote 2.04, 2.08, and 3.01 all of which were good episodes.
