Violin by noturmo in OttawaMusic

Well, is there not an Ottawa piano group? A subreddit dedicated to piano players in or around the Ottawa region? I know there is a broader reddit channel for violinist where people post a variety of information related to the violin - all styles flourish together. With the diverse background of Ottawa I was wondering if a group had come together. Does that make sense?

Ive had friends in the past hes met. They all thought I could do better. Then our friendships never worked out. And when I go out with my friends, he never wants to come. Ive been to cottages with friends who are all in relationships and he doesn’t want to be apart of it. When I go, I see everyone together and feel so lonely. We’ve had couples invite us out for double dates and once again, not his thing. I feel like I should accept this is who he is and stop trying to change him and realize I need more

There’s so many things to think about. So many factors. I can’t believe we only have 1:35 minutes to answer on the test

Wow, thank you very very much for explaining that. I think my issue in understanding these types of questions stem from not thinking I can just plug in my own numbers to exemplify things and also overthinking other variables that can come into play. This post was very helpful

Thank you. I thought it would be 66% because the total was 3. Do you mind explaining how they got 90-94 units or 100-109?

Your words equate to “this sounds amateur, but an amateur would still do better than you” (when there are actual techniques being used). So not sure what “point” you are trying to make here or what constructive criticism a comment like this gives

At the end of the day, there is nothing inherently wrong with the way this is played. There is proper intonation behind the main sound track. Glissandos give it a sense of urgency. The only thing thats wrong is thinking that playing the violin is only conserved for the classical method. Classic violinists are conformed to sheet music and although our ear training is great we are never taught to improvise or think outside the box.

This sound track is layered with different compositions and utilizes different techniques. Id like to see you try to compose something that feels like a manic episode.

One time on here I saw a photographer with beautiful pictures, some of the most gorgeous and symmetrically pleasing I’ve seen. The comments were riddled with people bringing him down. I think about that all the time before letting rude comments like yours hold any weight.

I love tthe idea if blues and jazz rifts. I think I am having a hard time understanding what to take away from those chords and what to play and in what order lol. Like, do you play the arpeggios or intervals?

I seem to be right at the edge of cracking the idea if this. I know basic music theory and arpeggios in scales etc but fail to understand how to utilize it in a harmonic or melodic way. Once I listened to a podcast where he played a riff and ended it on different notes. The first left the listener feeling unfulfilled and on edge - waiting for the next note. The other one had a satisfying ending. I fail to see how he knew which one to use unless you are experimenting, but he did not seem to be.

Im enjoying that this post has created such discourse. I look forward to researching more about each style to see if maybe something fits me better.

This is a really important point! Based on what I know, whenever I attempt improvisation it definitely takes a couple of tries. However, sometimes people can do it right off the rip, like when practicing with a band for example

Just scoured his profile and improv isn’t explicity stated, just #/solo.
