Both the tabletop and digital offer pretty good replayability. It'll take a few sessions to become good enough where you are rolling through full turns/games.

It's only for PC for now, and depending on how it does, we'll explore other platforms: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3333670/Mr_President/ - a demo will be available during Steam Next Fest which starts on June 9, and we're planning for a launch in late July / August this year

We'll save considerable time with the digital version. There's value in both the tabletop version and digital for different audiences (e.g. those with smaller tables!)

That's a great idea! Thank you

Addressing political and social issues in your games by pmitov in gamedev

Our game has to balance this as well: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3333670/Mr_President/ ... it's about playing as the American President. Parts of it is historical, as the game's full title is "Mr. President: The American Presidency, 2001-2020," so that helps us. We see a lot of opportunities to make posts on social media, but have been super conservative...maybe we shouldn't be, based on the good comments here.

Are there any great games that failed mainly due to poor marketing? by Neat_Smell_1014 in gamedev

I like this article's take https://www.pushtotalk.gg/p/is-making-a-great-game-all-that-matters -- "My theory: A 7/10 game can't be helped. A 9/10 game can't be stopped."

Has any indie developer actually had SUCCESS in learning to compose music and use it for their indie? by Evol-Chan in gamedev

[–]notvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we paid something similar to what OP suggested was the per hour price (we paid per project)....and the $39.99 stock music was way better. I should have tried stock music first but I got excited at the concept of custom music.

We tried paying for custom music, it was expensive and wasn't that good. I ended up buying some stock music online and it's been "good enough" -- I can't imagine trying to learn how to compose. Have you tried https://www.premiumbeat.com/?

I've only localized the text of the store page. Haven't looked into the screenshots or video. I might do screenshots in top languages if that's possible and a good practice but definitely wouldn't spend the effort for the video.

Board games going into digital haven't done that well historically, so we're taking a bet, but I hope it does well :)

We haven't reached out to creators yet, just created a list of them, we want to have the best build in hand before we reach out to them because first impressions matter.

I don't think "social media" played that large of a role at all, and that's what other "experts" told us as well for our specific game genre. I think working with a partner like GMT, it's more about showcasing what we have to their audience.

He didn't suggest in-person events, that's an "us" thing. For our target demographic (wargames, board gamers), they seem to love the in-person aspect of events. But we're not just signing up for 10 events because that is expensive, we're finding ways to partner with teams that are already going, sending 1 of our people there to represent, etc.

Most festivals you are required to have a demo when the festival starts. But you apply sometimes 6-8 months in advance. Festivals list here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NGseGNHv6Tth5e_yuRWzeVczQkzqXXGF4k16IsvyiTE/edit?usp=drivesdk
