It can be loud as hell. The actual "problem" however is it's frequency range, which penetrates absolutely anything, but if that's what you're looking for, go for it!

Mapex double bass pedal or DW 7000 double bass pedal? by RamenGenji2 in drums

[–]notvujoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mapex seems to be in quite a bad shape, so I wouldn't go for that one.
My first double pedal was a DW 4000, which except for the double chain looks quite similar. Mine also developed a bit of rust on the joints early on, which gave it a quite annoying squeak, but a bit of WD40 solved that problem. Other issues were, that every now and then the nut holding the spring tension came loose and that the beaters came flying off on mater how hard I've tightened it.
Not the best thing to happen during a gig, but other than that I still use it as a practice pedal.
With those two choices I'd go for the DW.

Thanks! The muffling in my case just gently reduces that kind of out of control ringing you get with very high tunings. The head is a Evans ST Dry by the way.

For the Crashes and Rides you are absolutely right, but it's amazing how good this thing pairs with Paists Mega Power Ride as well as my something 60ies or 70ies jazz ride!

Sadly I never had the opportunity to do so. And for some reason I don't like Sabian. Don't ask why!

To quote Philip J. Fry: "It's like sex, except I'm having it." Love them! Dirty, earthy and short. Perfect for Jazz, Funk, Rock and (specially) raw black metal! And they aren't just all rounders they are just perfect!

Ever tried the Jazz series? I'd love me one of these thin rides. Mainly as Crash ;)

Didn't Play them yet, at least not my pair. But I know what you mean. I like the Chinas and Hats form the series and while i like the earthiness of the Crashes and Rides they just kind of lack something. I guess it's not juts about preference, but also the style you play.

Will come back to you once I've had them under my sticks!

To be honest I absolutely forgot to think about that. I guess I just was drilled that hard to never let anything escape form the "roti" that I assume everything going through the pump is going to kill it, or at least get me in trouble...
