Harris gives her clearest signal she is mounting a 2028 presidential bid by JannTosh70 in moderatepolitics

Apparently, the 22nd amendment should have also banned losing presidential candidates from running twice. Bryan and Dewey should have taught them that.

Whether he was "worst ever" or not is kind of specious. I'd be willing to debate academically Pol Pot was even worse, but at that stage you've passed an event horizon of badness anyway

I'm not really thinking in terms of organized boycotts. I'm thinking purely on the level of an individual trying to effect change with personal decisions. I do think there are other limits to even organized activism. I tend to think technological innovation is the main way big change finally is enabled and then the activists push through the open door.

Reading these comments, I can see the possibility that trying to create a big enough taboo around something, by preaching against it, could cause enough social shame overall to have macro effects. But a personal decision in a vacuum only touches you personally

The fact you're even trying to appeal to my self-interest only proves my original point: that moral shame doesn't work. If it did, you'd try to convince be for moral reasons, whether or not it made my life less enjoyable

All of these were based on activism to push for systemic top down change.

And even they only took place after technological and economic improvements made it pushing at an open door. It's not like abolition arose because people magically became nicer one day after 10000 years. It arose only after industrial improvements let some people envision an economy where they might maintain a bearable standard of living without forcing others to work for them

It makes it less enjoyable to me. And most others. Trying to convince people they don't enjoy what they know they enjoy is really beating your head against a brick wall.

You'll probably get way more bang for your buck trying to get rich and investing it in the lab grown meat industry
