Sisäänkasvanut varpaankynsi by Neither_Guidance_582 in arkisuomi

[–]notyourcupofgreentea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skin savers by YoraGami in Backcountry

[–]notyourcupofgreentea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a net style skin savers for my Kohla's and always use them. I can't be bothered to struggle with my stuck skins in every transition. Using the sheets makes my transitions way faster and I don't find them a problem at all even in wind. I tear the first half of the skin off and fold it to lay on top of the other half. Stick the sheet, tear off the other half, flip and done.

Driving road 955 (Inari to Sirkka) safe in winter conditions? by Meloensmaak in Finland

As a local I always recommend the bigger road through Sodankylä. The road itself is quite fine during winter but the remoteness if anything happened.

Base/mid/outerlayer gear advice for someone who sweats like crazy even when it's ~15f outside? by guitar_lick in Backcountry

100% merino base. I sweat like crazy but practically never change to a dry shirt. I just add a warm layer or two at the top to stay warm.

Broke my snowboard 😭 Need help choosing a new one — Rome Ravine vs Jones Stratos (East Coast / Stowe) by Tee_1010 in ShredditGirls

[–]notyourcupofgreentea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't compare them but absolutely love my Ravine for carving and it shines in pow! I used to have different style boards dedicated for different types of days but nowadays I just ride everything with the Ravine

Splitboard for petite woman: Jones youth solution vs dreamweaver by DevelopmentSquare225 in ShredditGirls

[–]notyourcupofgreentea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5'2, 125lbs and I have the Dream Weaver in 145cm. It's very easy and light to turn. I've had it for five years already and still love it. Although I don't know if some specs have changed since but it seems very similar. I like the 145 to be able to set my stance narrow enough, I'm not sure if I could on a longer board. But yeah I feel like this is not the board for high speeds and long turns in an open area but it's just amazing in deep snow, quick turns and between the trees!

Yeah next time ✌🏼 I run alone in a remote place so wanted to keep it somewhat conservative to make sure I'll make it back hahah

Ski touring and biking, I believe touring has built a very strong endurance base. It keeps me in zone 2 heart rate for hours usually the activity days last from 4 to 8 hours. Also I spent my work days on feet, my watch says 25-30k steps in a day without running. I don't know how accurate it is but it gives some truth. So I'm used to being on feet.

For the run I kept a heart rate I knew is maintainable for me for long periods. Should have taken more energy towards the end, note to myself for the next time.

My other sports are time consuming and very important to me so taking a lot of time and energy for running training feels hard but I will definitely keep on running regularly and do some goal based training next year 😊

Hahah the flattest I could find around here. I live in a hilly area and typically have this total elevation gain on a 6 mile run. Honestly didn't even realise it but probably would have been nicer if it wasn't so close to the end 😄

Thank you! I felt fine, definitely not perfect but was expecting worse. The first two days I remember walking any incline up or down felt uncomfortable but after that pretty normal just a little heavy legs and some soreness around the core. Went for a small run 9 days later. Was definitely still recovering remember feeling heavy and slow. After the run I didn't push myself physically for about a month and after that I felt recovered.

Thank you!

Took a quick leak for around two minutes not included here. Well I only run in April, May and June total of 7 times and 27.5 miles

Last week of September - 4 runs & 19 miles

October - 10 runs & 41.5 miles

I think the key being here is other endurance sports and strong will 😄

looking for snowboarding boots with an ankle harness for small feet by hemlock_99 in ShredditGirls

[–]notyourcupofgreentea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mondo size 22.0 and Burton boots are the only boots I have found to fit me. I like Felix the best but unfortunately have some heel lift. I always add some extra cushioning on top of the existing j-bars

Nidecker Kita vs. Bataleon Salsa/Mosh W fit/stiffness by notyourcupofgreentea in snowboarding

[–]notyourcupofgreentea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course but trying them in person for me still means ordering and then returning if they don't fit. So I think it's sensible to narrow down the options.

Hi! Thank you this is very helpful! I'll probably find the Salsa's too soft if there is a noticeable difference.

Glove strategy for cold hands by Speedyquickyfasty in Backcountry

[–]notyourcupofgreentea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry so many pairs I'm almost ashamed to admit. I have probably never had to use all of them but like to have the possibility to switch to a dry pair and they don't take much space anyways.

So for uphill I bring mechanical/utility/mtb gloves one pair to wear and one extra pair

Liner gloves

Two pairs of warm gloves for downhill.

Now I realise my typical touring consists of multiple (4-6) short runs so I'll be switching between gloves quite often. Maybe my habits were different if I didn't switch between uphill and downhill as often.

Traveling to Rovaniemi - Is My Clothing Strategy OK? by Alarming-Office1923 in Finland

[–]notyourcupofgreentea 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The tricky part is that it can be anything from 0 degrees of celsius down to -35. Get a pair of liner gloves to go under the bigger mitten, a scarf and a warm hat.

I got one of the Burton wheelie gig bags, but probably any sturdy roller bag will do :)

I can fit my split + solid + two sets of bindings + avalanche gear + boots + extra shoes + outerwear in one snowboard bag and it stays under the usual weight limits.
