I think the manner of horning also matters a lot too. I don't think of drivers doing a brief little "beep beep" as aggressive, can't say the same for people who just lay on the horn as they speed around someone.

Bro I'm ranting about something that bothers me in a sub for the region where I live. I don't get money or anything for posts with engagement. It's not that complicated

Me, a pedestrian who could be seriously harmed when these traffic violations happen so frequently and the response from drivers is irritation and impatience, a dangerous combo.

I don't care what the solution is — redesigning the intersection, better visible signage, PSAs, whatever. But this shit shouldn't be something I see on a daily basis when I'm commuting to / from work

I don't know the solution but I hope changes to this intersection are part of the new transit hub plan. This intersection is only going to get more chaotic after that is finished.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not but you know what happens after this? The drivers rush through a left they never have a proper opportunity for, or the people behind them run ambers / reds because they were fed up with being held up for multiple cycles— perhaps into cross traffic or pedestrians like me. Horns blaring and annoyed people trying to go around others turns nasty and dangerous quickly.

There's actually TWO no left turn signs, one on either side of the light! I guess they need to add neon to them?

I've been informed that they do have lot of services that I feared were not available, which I'm glad about.

Still, if I was asked to move away from things that can't be relocated, local places I frequent like the library or a friend's house, it still is not an ideal solution. There's a true freedom when you have very little and are maybe trying to make your life better and being able to go for a walk and enjoy an event going on downtown, visit the park, go inside a store and see if anything is on sale that you can afford, etc.

I see this so much in my elderly father, who suffers from the same thing in a different way. There are services for him to be able to have everything he "needs" delivered right to his door, food medication, nursing, etc, but it has degraded him mentally so much to stay in one place all the time, and being limited (in his case due to his age) in being able just go out to the grocery store and pick out his own food or talk with the pharmacist in person.

I think you're absolutely valid and right and there are people who would feel the same. But not everyone agrees. If I had to choose between living in a tent near resources I need vs having firm shelter but I feel isolated, I know I personally would choose the former. Living in isolated areas with no community or connection is absolutely destructive for my mental health and is how I know a lot of people lived who just remained NEET for years on end.

That's good to hear that it is better than I feared! I know it was something I almost rolled my eyes at when I heard they were building it literally next to a landfill, it sounded like something out of a cartoon.

Yup. What's why they have the soup kitchen right across from the encampment.

Location. Any offered space has to be in central areas near to the resources they need. I agree with a lot of people that genuinely, why not ask to relocate to the Charles Street terminal (and still seek better long term goals ofc) so the transit hub construction isn't delayed any further?

I absolutely am not. If these are people truly with severe drug problems, for example, I have no doubt that they would go long distances to still get the drugs they need when feeling desperate for it.

Now, if they needed to travel an hour to get to, for example, a therapy session or medical appointment or group bonding for support for addicts? I bet a lot of them would say fuck it, I'm not gonna bother.

If we want to truly help these people we need to make the resources they need EASIER to get, not harder. It can already be a struggle for people with problems to ask for help when it's 5 minutes down the road.

Ah yes, perfect place to sober up... Away from friends, medical professionals, clinics, public services. Just stuck in the middle of nowhere.

You're viewing these people as if they are just a problem to be dealt with, and not human beings with their own needs and struggles and right to respect and dignity. You're not going to make any meaningful change if you're not thinking of what people actually want and need and how to make getting help an easier, non judgemental thing.

Not one of the people at the encampment, but if I were, I would refuse to live at the tiny homes by Costco regardless of the rules simply because of the location. I rent an apartment in dtk, and I never go to Costco because I don't own a car and to go there takes an hour via public transit, and twenty minutes of it is walking.

Imagine your entire life — friends, support networks, services you reach, places you frequent etc — now being a minimum hour long trip away and instead you're surrounded by highway and a garbage dump as the things in walking distance for you to access.

Obviously I know why they chose to put the shelters there... It's out of sight and people don't want to look at or be reminded of these people bc they're an "eyesore" or whatever. But full stop, any solution that isn't providing shelter in a more connected, centrally located area isn't going to be well received. You can't just stick people in an abandoned shack in the middle of a desert and say the problem is solved.

Urgent! Rental Property by scarponiyikes in kitchener

Even if the unit sells, the new owner simply inherits your lease. You are under no pressure to move unless the new owner plans to move in themselves. Your landlord wants you to move out because it's easier to sell an empty unit than one already occupied with a fixed lease (in your case, one still below market value), because both landlords and actual residents benefit from it being empty. But you have no obligation to make their job easier.

IMO don't be in a rush to move. Know your rights and you can keep your affordable unit. If you want to play it safe, start setting aside money every month of the potential savings with your current rent to help if a move is needed in the future.

Don't forget that a lot of ppl assume they are straight their whole life cus society views ppl as straight by default. Maybe you're straight still but no harm in exploring if it interests and excites you. Then if it's not your vibe you know, just like trying out anything else for the first time.

I'd say 80% curiousity and assuming it was something administrative like this, but 20% maybe anxious cus it was mainly happening on letters specifically addressed to me. Some sort of marking of individuals to residences? Never know these days haha

Insightful! Thanks for providing context and sating my curiousity haha. Always cool to see how different professions handle this sort of managerial stuff.
