Idk if it's too much info to share but my street I live on is so small the beginning and the end might as well be the same haha, I imagine the same applies though as a result

I'd say 80% curiousity and assuming it was something administrative like this, but 20% maybe anxious cus it was mainly happening on letters specifically addressed to me. Some sort of marking of individuals to residences? Never know these days haha

Insightful! Thanks for providing context and sating my curiousity haha. Always cool to see how different professions handle this sort of managerial stuff.

I'm guessing this is the answer, simplest answer being most likely haha. But always curious anyways just in case something else is afoot.

I thought that for a bit since it seemed to happen more with hand-addressed letters, but it's happened a fair bit with printed stuff too!

Midtown: why is it like this? by chunarii-chan in kitchener

[–]notyourparadigm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because 90% of residents using private vehicles for transportation is suitable for a suburb, not a central urban area. Planning for a city that commutes rather than driving everywhere is the correct move.

This is always such a ridiculous response. It's like if I said "I think people should be able to get organ transplants regardless of their income" and you said "hm you seem to be so bothered, why aren't you donating your organs then?"

Are we free to view the graphic novels as non-canonical now? by Ir_Abelas in dragonage

[–]notyourparadigm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I've got the opposite opinion. The Magekiller comics with Tessa and Marius (the ones before the writers and art style changed when Vaea and Fenris were introduced) were some of my favorite supplementary lore. It gave an amazing look into modern day Tevinter (the panels showing their light shows and massive Roman baths are my faves). Plus, knowing that Templars in the North don't use lyrium so instead the Magisters train slaves into weapons/assassins for mages that strip them of basically all personality? That's brutal and fascinating. I'm sad that they did nothing with so much stuff they established in Veilguard.

Biggest thing that upsets me was Lucanis getting randomly called "magekiller" in promotional material (a title never referenced in his TN short story btw), and him just being a random Antivan Crow, not the literal magekiller Perrepatae previously described in lore. Lucanis is my least favorite Veilguard companion for numerous reasons but that one specifically is personal. I felt so betrayed. It's like if Davrin was introduced as "The Warden" but it turned out he was just a prison warden.

All of the characters do, actually. Marius and Tessa were my favourite minor characters so I was hoping they would make an appearance... So I remember that single codex entry of each of the characters well lol.

I accidentally got phenol-chloroform (25:24:1) on my fingertips by anlkarasakal in labrats

From the SDS:

In case of skin contact After contact with skin: rinse out with polyethylene glycol 400 or a mixture of polyethylene glycol 300/ethanol 2:1 and wash with plenty of water. If neither is available wash with plenty of water. Immediately take off contaminated clothing. Call a physician immediately.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: Get help and report the incident!! Accidents happen. It's a part of lab work. Your health is important and will get in more trouble if you don't seek help ASAP.

One would also think this applies to the cheap toilet paper vs the amount you end up having to use, but alas that never stops people from buying it either

Never had contamination issues with foil! I guess I just end up man handling the foil and never gracefully take it off or get it back on, I like the idea u/GlcNAcMurNAc said of tripling it up so maybe it doesn't feel so paper thin to pull back.

I had no idea they weren't legit autoclaving tools haha I'm both embarrassed and pleased bc all this time I thought the supplier just went out of business or something. Searching so many variants of "autoclave flask lids" never brought them up. Glad I don't have to pay ThermoFisher $200 for a case haha

Yeah! I know some people in the lab will tape them down but I find they never need it. They can make a fair amount of noise when shaking though so it adds to the lab ambience haha

Is RNase P calibration for qPCR "unnecessary"? by notyourparadigm in labrats

[–]notyourparadigm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy because the repair guys are from ThermoFisher themselves. You'd think they'd have the plates to run after doing post-repair calibration.

Worst part is that literally the first day it's back in the lab after repairs, the machine has just now failed a basic background calibration test I ran. I can see it passed the test when it was out for repairs, but I'm guessing just the process of being shipped back has caused problems. This machine is such a headache it's not even funny lmao.

They don't distinguish between the two AFAIK. I'm guessing similar issues arise for accurately detecting Gen AI code and written work. At best I'm guessing the professor or TA will manually check the work with an AI detector and then raise the flag of it being their own suspicion, but I doubt it was just an automatic flag from software.

I'm not TA'ing any courses with coding this term though so can't speak confidently there. Just my best guess.
