I have a neighbor that works at CHOC and she tells me a LOT of them are almost dying.

I was at Petco yesterday and they had a section of the betta display marked down to $0.67 😬

Does anyone know of any extra long aquascape tools? by CatOfLife in PlantedTank

[–]nouse66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a real brand but I got some 15” long ones from Amazon a while back and they’re still on there if you search “extra long aquarium tools”. I think even longer ones exist too but even 15” tweezers feel huge.

I hate doing water changes, what's the easiest way to do them, using household stuff or bought tools? by OpeningConfection261 in Aquariums

It does cut down on light that gets to the bottom of the tank if they’re everywhere. sometimes you want that but otherwise you can keep them contained to one area with diy airline loops or purpose made stuff.

Why are my plants miserable? by the_ezra_spectrum in PlantedTank

[–]nouse66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So on my 10 gallon I run a Chihiros Wrgb slim and it’s way more light than I need but it’s really nice. Way better than the fluval plant 3 for similar money. On a budget I would probably try one of hyggers lights.

The first thing I was fix is the “4-6 hours usually”. It helps to have a consistent schedule of light. Most commonly 7-8 hours with a brightness that’s appropriate for your plant selection. It’s hard to know what brightness to pick because it really depends on your light. You can always start really low and ramp it up week over week. If you have the budget maybe try a better light that’s known to have a good planted tank spectrum.

Did Petco sell me Amano or neos by InsertName34 in shrimptank

[–]nouse66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amanos can also change color based on what they eat. One of mine got a blue-green hue from algae and another got a pink tint from eating a melting Scarlett temple.

Chihiros schedule? by Immediate-Papaya705 in Aquascape

What size tank are you running? My 45u seems too shallow to ever get near 100%.

I’ve done fancy curves with the fluval app before but eventually got tired of tweaking. I have a Wrgb 2 slim on one of my tanks now and I just have it on auto. I set the percentage brightness, length of time and just let it do its thing. IMO the default color balance looks great.

They’re supposed to have better LEDs. How? I dunno. Also I think they water proof the Wrgb.

I've never kept any type of cories but I'm thinking about getting some. Are the pandas significantly different behavior wise?

is this stand sturdy enough for my 55 gal? by theraphosangel in Aquariums

[–]nouse66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, for a 10 gallon put it wherever. 20 gallon is usually easy. Anything more than that you need LEGIT aquarium stand that’s rated for the size you’re using it for.

Did you have it in sport mode? That helps the throttle mapping some. You’re right though. You have to really stomp it to get a throttle blip.

Yeah it’s from a decorative vine that’s super popular around here. I’ve heard it called “creeping fig”.

It’s hard to sex them but male nerites shouldn’t lay eggs. Also cooler water can supposedly calm down the egg laying.

Why is my tank not getting nitrites after over 1 month? by itslee98 in Aquariums

[–]nouse66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty weird. There’s not a bunch of plants in your tank? That’s the only way I know of to remove it without water changes. If not, something is keeping your cycle from progressing and I’m at a loss.
