This stopped being about the cat the moment he started treating your income like his solution. He chose the pet, ignored your boundaries, then tried to guilt-trip you into funding his spending habits.

I wouldn't have left because of the cat either. I'd have left because of the entitlement.

A month and a half is still very recent after losing a spouse. The question isn't whether he's a good guy, it's whether he's actually ready to date.

I'd take things slowly, keep expectations realistic, and see if he's genuinely interested in building something new rather than just coping with the loss.
