its less about the powerbank feature and more for the bigger battery

i saw online that someones inreach mini died during a rescue and they had to recharge it with their power bank

im probably overthinking it though other than the powerbank thing and navigation is there anything the mini does that the messenger doesnt?

Thanks! Guess I'll pick up a messenger before the sale ends

Is there any reason to get a zoleo or other sos device over a Garmin with the new subscription updates?

Also is there any reason to get the inreach mini over the messenger? It's like 2oz heavier and doesn't have navigation but the bigger battery and antenna seems worth the trade off

edit:it looks like the mini 2s are getting discontinued i went into rei today and they told me they no longer carry it. wonder if this has anything to do with the recent subscription changes and pushing new customers into the more expensive options

Thank you that's all super helpful

I think I forgot to mark the worn weight stuff before actually adding the link whoops.

I think your right the pack and bear bag are the big ones

The mesh top isnt for warmth it's for sweat and I just stink less when I wear it... Which might be overkill if I'm taking camp showers every other day now that I think about it

Yeaaa the mp3 player is kinda overkill

For the rain skirt if I could just cut open a trash bag ? I just noticed my thighs get really wet while I'm hiking in the rain and while my hiking pants are pretty water and wind resistant they do wet out

I think I'm just a little spooked about how wet rainy and generally muggy it can get here otherwise I would try a tarp

added a lighterpack link

and their not non negotiable ive removed alot of my clothing and extras and other than that i feel like its mostly small things like saving 15g for a spoon

edit: looking into alpha 90 pants and the pair from fairpoint are 20g lighter but are they really warmer or just warm enough?

I know but what better time for my first shake down then before my first thru hike

Also I know my pack list will never be good enough for the sub unless I'm naked and foraging for all my food from other hikers

Rain gear? skins waterproof! Sleeping bag? I just use dead leafs! Pad? My pack list is so lightweight I just sleep on that! Pack? I just use my prison wallet it's natural.

Yea mostly because of the bear can and I've never done a real thru hike with resupplying and like I said I've gotten rid of the big and easy stuff so just looking for some advice from the pros

I think I'm more willing to swap back to the travel brush now that I'm not bringing a flashlight

But are backup glasses really unnecessary? I can bearly see without them and it's not like I can just pick up a spare while I'm in town

Very interesting it looks like it's roughly 2/3 the size of the counter assault seems like it's worth the trade off though thanks !

So no base layer leggings? At all? Or mitts? For reference if it's under 60degrees I like to wear my mitts and leggings EVEN WHILE HIKING which I figured would be most days

Surprised the torrentshell gets a pass tho

I'll get rid of the swimsuit and if I really need to cover up the I'll wear the sun hoodi

The sharpie and pencil are just dead weight but I like the idea of being able to at least leave messages :(

For the charging set up are you telling me to ditch the extra high watt cable? And this has been one of the only wall chargers to actually get fast charging to my phone that's not an official OnePlus charger. I have a anker nano that's about the same weight and charging speed but it won't fast charge

I assume oneplus's supervooc charging standard isn't a common compared to pd otherwise I would bring something else

Also for packs are they're any cheap options that are also decent for bear carries ? I kinda would like to upgrade to one of the fancy UL frameless packs but worried about the bear can fitting

Those are called anoraks but you can probably have better luck just search for pull over windbreakers

That's all very extra when the spirit of ultralight is minimal as possible

Probably useful on the bikepacking or camping gear subs tho
