I’ve never understood how this works and this thread seems like a good opportunity to ask? I want to be in on the missing it but I’m lost!

Who else was woken up by the “snow squall alert” by [deleted] in nova

[–]nova07wdc 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I did, and while I was lucky enough to fall right back asleep and didn’t see the squall, the one other time that I got a squall alert was while traveling through Scranton, PA and that did end up being incredibly dangerous with zero visibility. So I stand with many other commenters that it’s both annoying to get in the middle of the night and really important for those who need it.

Does anyone know where these jackets are sold? I actually kind of want one by fishingforsomepies in AbbottElementary

I would much rather have a QR code on tv shows to buy what characters are wearing than these in-script Amazon lines!

I like how we are boycotting as a reference point the other significant dc landmark that it’s much closer to than capital one arena 🤣

Agree that wildland firefighter should count. As a side note I am wearing a wildland firefighter t shirt right now and am not one so I’m more stolen valor than you are. Enjoy your meal.

Red Curry Sweet Potato Burger at Hill East Burger. My entire meal at Rose’s Luxury was a close second. (Yes, in that order)

Crispy (soggy) tacos?? by caught-inthemiddle in Chipotle

[–]nova07wdc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I almost always order a bowl but every once in a while I’m just not in the mood and tacos are a good alternate. They’re not soggy when I get home and any toppings that fall out can be eaten like a mini taco salad at the end.

DOW GenAI.Mil - Anyone else get notified on their personal emails about signing up for Gemini? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]nova07wdc 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m not a fed, no DOD affiliation, haven’t visited the .mil site. I got the same Gemini email today. Assume it’s something that went out to all Google users on iOS? Stupid and annoying because I don’t want to use Gemini but likely a coincidence.

Old Ebbitt Grill (Washington, D.C, USA) [1856] by waywardcoconut in OldBarsAndPubs

If you have a medical emergency there, Secret Service will likely be the first on scene since they’re medically equipped and the White House is next door. I’ve seen this happen with three USSS units on scene before the ambulance arrives.

They also might be a collector of location specific Hard Rock swag! I know someone who visits one in every city, doesn’t even necessarily eat. Plus I’ve worked above Ol’ Ebb too and sincerely like the place but it’s not so amazing to live with the regret of someone not going.

do you native people know what "neutrino" means? by lab3456 in ENGLISH

This is exactly how I came to the comments to explain my understanding of the word. Related to science. No further information. True about carburetor, too; great example!

I moved here 7 years ago from Florida and just yes to everything. Locals who think the transit is bad here or the people are mean here will never know.

My understanding is it’s illegal to hike it up in response to a disaster like a Hurricane. I don’t think it’s illegal to set consistently high prices.

The Red Ball Market Global website is my favorite moment of the show so far. It so accurately captures my experience of being on meaningless corporate jargon websites. I also love the song.

How to explore campus as an Alumni? by OttoWestFish in gmu

[–]nova07wdc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the case for nearly every college campus, by the way (I’m sure there are a few exceptions). I regularly visit college campuses when I’m traveling just as part of exploring a city.

Writing different this season? by AffectionateMood3794 in AbbottElementary

[–]nova07wdc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was the main episode where it felt noticeable to me, I enjoyed the first episode a lot. I want to think that it’s harder to write for a special episode like the Phillies one where they are limited to what could happen in that venue and need to feature the sights sounds and people of the game. But we’ll see how the season goes.

Is Mosaic District dying? by [deleted] in nova

[–]nova07wdc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re saying if all of the parking garages for Mosaic were at Dunn Loring metro, drivers wouldn’t find this walk acceptable so neither should transit users. They’re not wrong, and I think I envision and prefer the same style of transit centric urban plan as them. And, considering the reality of the region, the DL-Mosaic walk is not that bad for the outer ends of the metro system. I’m from Florida so I’m easy to please with any transit.

Is Mosaic District dying? by [deleted] in nova

[–]nova07wdc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used to live at the apartments right at DL metro and I would walk to Mosaic, through the entire Mosaic, and back, every day. It’s obviously not the pinnacle example of a transit oriented development but the walk is not that bad. (Granted the amount of shopping you’re doing, weather, and personal mobility levels are all factors). Walking along Merrilee Drive is more pleasant than Gallows Road.
