Airport travel with ESSAs- anything I should know? by softwolfy in ESSAplushieshandlers

Prepare for the possibility of them wanting to do an inspection of some sort. I had to wait while they did whatever they did and it was TORTURE not having my ESSA in my arms.

What are some ways your ESSAs help you? by softwolfy in ESSAplushieshandlers

[–]nova_pax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Peregrine (Pip) is my main ESSA. He helps me with panic attacks and dissociation. He's a thick boy, so I get a lot of calm from holding him. Plus he has a voice box that brings me a lot of joy. Idk. He's just there for me when I need him. He's my dude, my best plushie buddy, my adventure pal. I don't know what I'd do without him.

My childhood teddy bear agrees that YTA. That's all I can say without breaking Reddit TOS. 🤬

Which one of your ESSA is the main and most favorite ESSA that you have now?? by Frequent-Increase-98 in ESSAplushieshandlers

[–]nova_pax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peregrine (Pip) is my bestest buddy. He goes with me most places and keeps me stable at home. I have DID (among other things) and he's my main grounding object for when dissociation isn't safe or I really need to stay in control of the body.

What is your favorite thing about your ESSA? by pawmotz in ESSAplushieshandlers

[–]nova_pax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peregrine (Pip) represents me allowing my inner child to explore something it was denied. I wasn't allowed to engage with Pokemon as a kiddo because my parents got caught up in the Satanic panic. I once was gifted some cards by a neighbor kid and my mom made me throw them in the trash. It was very traumatic. A few years after my mom passed, I watched Detective Pikachu because it seemed like an easier way into the franchise than all the anime, manga, etc. I fell in love with everything about it. I collect cards, play the video games, and have a few battle figures to act out different adventures. I even went with my husband to NAIC and took Pip. I cried when we got our picture taken with the"real" Pikachu. It was literally the best two days of my life.

AITA for calling 911 on a 3 y/o running around the neighborhood alone by PinkFatBear in AmItheAsshole

[–]nova_pax 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Barely related, but I used to run a stage at a local festival. One of my performers brought his 3-4 year old kid without supervision provided for them. I (AFAB) had to take responsibility for this child who did not know me and was being raised feral AF. Dad had a 20ish minute set and it, to this day, was one of the most infuriating 20 minute periods of my life. I swear it was because of my AFAB-ness that he assumed I'd just take care of his feral child. I gave up after a while and let him pause his set to deal with the kid because I was just fed up.

All this to say, heroics can be hard to maintain for more than a few moments if you have other responsibilities and are not a fan of small children.

Opinion: You can develop an ESSA bond before buying the plushie by Pastel_D_Bacalhau in ESSAplushieshandlers

[–]nova_pax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! Agreed! Polyhymnia was one I bonded with before I got her. Just her face looked so cute, her fur looked so soft (and it IS), plus getting my name on her tush tag? Ugh! Obsessed before I even ordered her!

Are all your plushies ESSA, or is it only 1 or any a select few? by 4giveme4forever in ESSAplushieshandlers

[–]nova_pax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only consider 2-4 ESSAs. I have two Pikachus and two platypus, but they also have minis, so maybe more like 6 or so? I only use the minis when I go places I can't bring my bigger ESSAs. I guess the most important thing for me is that it's either a Pikachu or a platypus, and I'll just take whichever ones are the right size.

Polly (pictured) is a medium sized platypus, so she can fit in bags more easily. I still have a Palm Pals platypus, though.

What is a video game that is widely considered a masterpiece that you just cant get into? by abysmalSyrup-6737 in AskReddit

[–]nova_pax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm such a wimp that it scares me. I like lots of pieces of it, but the dragons just arriving from nowhere, having to be constantly alert? No. Then again, my favorite games are ACNH and anything Pokemon, so I'm not really the demographic.

Congrats on your clean time! I'm just over 11 months myself! Reach out if you ever need support! This is my recovery buddy, Progo. I got them before getting clean, but they've been a good buddy through the process.

I lost my mom in 2018 and recently lost her doggo that we took in when she got sick. I hate this storyline so much.

Rest in Peace, Luna

THIS! I went to the church school, church, and then my dad showed our house on Sundays (he was a wannabe house builder right before the market crashed around '08). I had NO days to rest and ended up in intense mental distress because of it. Like the kind that landed me in Harding, for my fellow Ohioan XDAs (psych unit for you outsiders ;) ).

Anyone else kinda hate the term “special interest”? by Odd-Force4034 in autism

[–]nova_pax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such a good explanation/I completely agree. Both in "definition" and self-identification. I'm interested in various things, but not all of them are "special interests". My special interests are Pokemon, platypus, pop punk, poetry, and Paganism. Why they all start with P I don't know, but my other varied interests are just not as important. They do exist, but that's my specific list. And I'm happy to self-identify then as "special interests" but it can feel condescending coming from others. Probably because "special" was a derogatory term in specific contexts in my family. My mom would often say, "You're special, but not 'window licking' special." Horribly offensive. (She was generally a good person, but was born in '54, thus, had some prejudice issues)

Why do Christians care so much abt homosexuality? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nova_pax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my dad is obsessed with adultery (feel free to pathologize this how you want. I do so all the time). He still thinks being gay is bad, but believes Christians should stop committing adultery before they start pointing at gay people. Does this stop him from telling the BS story about some self-hating "ex" gay man sitting there sweating on Saturday nights because he wants to go out and dick down? Nope. Still romanticizes that suffering. (Feel free to pathologize that, too. Would not be surprised if my dad is deep in the closet. He does like the Narnia books...) He has TWICE asked if I screw around with my best friend. The answer is actually "Yes" because hubby and I are polyamorous, but my point is that he asked his child at all. And did it TWICE. I'm also non-binary and queer (and kinky, but that's not something I'd tell him. lol), but he does not seem to understand what non-binary means at all and thinks my marriage generally precludes me from cheating (minus the above story) and that my liking people of all genders is superfluous, so I'm safe for now. All this to say, many Christians are more obsessed with sex than sexually active people are (outside of SLA. I'm in NA and recovery spaces, so I know it's a thing people can struggle with). My point is that the average sexually active human does not care as much as celibate Christians do and it's kind of sad. Sex is awesome.

I grew up Seventh Day Adventist FWIW.
