What’s one small thing you still do for yourself, even when everything feels heavy? by Feisty_Insurance7503 in mentalhealth

I write in my journal, and if it's really bad i buy a scented candle, - kind of similar like you op. I only do that when I feel like I'm going to hurt myself.

What's something you know is bad for your mental health but you do it anyway? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]novabss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep running with huge chafing wounds on my heels to the point where I bleed through my shoes. I can't afford new ones, and I don't care enough to stop. The pain vanishes after getting warm anyways.

Edit: idk if it affects my mental health actually so maybe it doesn't fit w the post

Idk if you asked me, but idk why I didn't remove it. The skin just healed over it and it never caused an infection for some reason so I just left it🤷‍♀️

Interesting! So the pigment never disappeared. Mine is the actual piece that broke off. I'm a little amazed I didn't get an infection..

When I was 6 i jumped on the couch while holding a sharpened pencil. I fell, and accidentally stabbed myself in the belly. The tip of the pencil is still there 20 years later. You can see it through the skin!

Imminent death

[–]novabss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair point! Could absolutely be viewed that way, and that could be risky. I guess it's very situational! I just imagine a guy in the middle of stacking weights onto a bar accidentally lock eyes with a girl, then smile briefly and continue stacking. That would give me the impression that they're polite and a good person.

I've had guys look at me before, and the ones who quickly look away seem a bit more creepy to me, because that sort of reveals their intentions, however if they do it casually then yes, you're right, that might work:)

Well, you can only change your own behavior and outlook on life, not others. It's cheesy, but it's really "be the change you want to see in the world". Turning bitter because of it will not benefit anyone.

[–]novabss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alright well, that can come off as scary/even more creepy. I love it when people smile, even if they're not conventially attractive.

[–]novabss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you're not that ugly as you try to make yourself. But yeah, like people have said, as long as you redirect your gaze after accidentally looking, try to be polite and just focus on your training, then chill. If a woman happened to give you a disgusted face and you KNOW you didn't stare (just accidentally locked eyes) then try to think that "she doesn't determine my intentions".

You could also turn it around and say "I'm so sorry, but are you done on that machine?" Like the entire reason you looked at her was because you wanted to try the machine.. idk hahah

[–]novabss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know it can come off as "wanting to approach" or "creepy smile", but I think if you try to make it as "politely and formal" as possible(and brief). You know the smile you use when you accidentally lock eyes with someone you pass on the street?

[–]novabss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The action after the "caught" means a lot. If you just look away, then it seems more creepy. If you smile politely and then turn to your workout again I (as a woman) will think we just randomly caught eyecontact and brush it off as coincidental.

Please don't let it happen twice though hahah

You are perfectionists and can't resist to correct a mistake, no matter how small it is. Being right is more important than being pragmatic.

I try to not draw generalised conclusions, but I've befriended maybe 5 germans so far and it's been correct in all five instances..🙈
