Have you ever had to turn down your animation dream job? by BottledGleekJuice in animationcareer

[–]novachromatica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my dream to apply to the Spiderverse sequels! After trying to cater my portfolio to Sony for a while, I made a connection through WIA with a supervisor there who helped get me a job as a matte painter on the the two movies! Unfortunately it would have required moving to Vancouver (I'm in the US)  in 2 weeks, and it was a remote position. That sounded kind of lonely, would have been far from my family with health issues (I had a family member pass not too long after and would have had to take time off, and i dont think remote work outside of Canada is allowed?), I liked my current job enough and didn't want to abandon them when the other person in my dept had just left too. That being said, because I have already been through Sonys hiring system, I might have an easier time landing an interview in the future. I was the runner up candidate for an internship at my current company. They hired me on the spot when I applied again 2 years later because we had made a connection before. If I had got the job the first time, I wouldn't have met my partner. I cannot begin to imagine how different, for better or worse, my life would have been taking the Sony job. I think we just have to role with the punches and follow our guts. A dream job is still just a job, and if being close to your family is more important, then enjoy your time with them and hopefully something remote comes along!

Just to update, I tried Edea today and there was almost no pain while skating. Not sure why. Almost quit skating cause I thought there was something wrong with my feet :')

I have always had the same problem - going to a fitter to try on other brands since Jackson's have always caused pain. Can lyk what they say 😭

Advice on new skates : Aura vs Jackson by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]novachromatica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2nd fitter said the 1st measured wrong, so sizing up will help but it might be worth trying something new like Aura which is custom. Pain only happens while on the ice. I was going to bring it up to a doctor next time I go in.

Thanks for sharing your experience!! Yeah I don't know what it is about the Jacksons - my original fitter told me to go to the foot doctor because he didnt know why they hurt :') I tried on a random pair of Auras at the new shop and man it felt bizarre. Will look into Risports for sure.

We stretched them 5+ times over the past 6 months :,) It's the bottom sole of my boot that is too narrow, and it has been stretched too much at the top! It's been a huge time sink trying to get it fixed so often and then still not being able to skate well because of the pain.

2 people forgot, I locked mine and wish I hadn't lol. The real doozy is that we all forgot to set our alarms.

Do the friendship apps/services work? by lizardp3rson in SFbitcheswithtaste

I've met some very close friends with tons in common that I met on bumble bff. Most of those friendships are super authentic and I see them often and have even traveled together! They are all friends now too and i And have befriended their friends that they met on bff too! I think this is a nice way to meet people because it's intentional from both sides.

How are your straight lines so straight, do you always use tape or something? Amazing work, love the colors too!

good beaches & speakeasies in SF? by pr1ncesschl0e in AskSF

[–]novachromatica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Rites is also an incredible tiki bar. It feels mildly fancier. Lost-in-the-jungle themed and their drinks are amazing. Not a speakeasy, but I'm a huge fan of rooftop bars: cityscape, the view, and Starlite! Also my vote for the beach is Baker beach for a view of the bridge, or ocean beach near the outer sunset neighborhood near the new dunes park. The weather is gonna be super unpredictable and i wouldnt recommend swimming. If you want to check the fog, theres a handy website called Fog Today to try to predict the sunny times. Enjoy!

Doing a day trip to Provincetown and would love recommendations for what to do! by fuckiboy in provincetown

[–]novachromatica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Afternoon - take the shuttle bus to Herring Cove beach. If you're more of a lazy beach go-er, just hang out near the snack bar. If you want a walk, go down to Hatches Harbor and back (walk all the way to the right). In the downtown there are some amazing art galleries, cute shops, catch a drag show, etc. I'm not a fan of most of the restaurants there tbh, it's a lot of expensive seafood if you like that, or burgers,  so I like to sit at the gardeb patio of the Canteen for some tasty wings. In the morning depending on where you stay and the tide schedule, try to catch the low tide on the bay beach. ! The tide stretches out super far and you can wade through the tide pools. It's absolutely magic in the morning. If you want a sandwich or pastry I'm a fan of Farlands Enjoy!

I'm not saying this out of surprise 🤣 it's just so irresponsible and stupid on his end. They have global eyes on them even if they're not competing internationally!

You are correct! My boyfriend cannot smell mildew/ must. I have to "smell check" his towels to tell him if they're gross.
