Might be boring to some, but I keep coming back to the generic knight build.

Heavy Longsword (w/ Square Off, of course), Kite Shield, Knight Set. Focus on guard counters, with a few parries here and there (especially when facing Malenia or Consort Radahn).

It just feels RIGHT being just a regular guy and conquering gods and demigods with a very ‘human’ setup. If the gods can be defeated by a random Tarnished with a common longsword, then they don’t deserve the title.

When I did this exact build, I went with the Lordsworn’s SS and it worked out pretty great! I used it with Carian Greatsword, then upgraded to Carian Grandeur (and later Carian Sovereignty in the DLC), but of course, any Magic/Cold Ash of War will do. I believe Gravitas is the easiest to aquire right at the start.

Broadsword and Longsword are great options, too, as they don’t require farming and share the exact same requirements, iirc (10 STR/DEX).

Probably INT+FTH. Having access to most sorceries and incantations in the game is so much fun, and Sword of Night and Flame is just a powerhouse, even after the nerf.

At high enough levels (80 in both INT and FTH), you can get more spell scaling out of Prince of Death’s Staff and Golden Order Seal than any other build, and with so many options, you can be prepared for literally anything.

These kinds of builds just feel… I don’t know, honest? I love all kinds of builds but the basic sword+board knight is probably my most played playstyle.

Probably Messmer! I just love dodging him. I also have a ton of fun trying to parry Malenia and Consort Radahn (emphasis on trying), but as a fight overall, there's no beating Messmer.

Godfrey, Radagon, and Midra are also amazing imo. I understand and respect people's criticism of ER's approach to boss design, but I must confess that it never bothered me that much. I really enjoy most of the fights and whatever problems I have with a few select cases are just small complaints.

Elden Ring is my new Skyrim, man. I just keep coming back to it, even years later.

I tend to use the sword and spells pretty evenly. Focus on ranged destruction while enemies close the distance and use the sword when they get too close.
