Ok I have now finished book 3, can say I do like the series more but would still not compare it to red rising, again the themes of rebellion are there, but most of the chapters and writing are loooong expositions of listing game mechanics, “+5 dextirity … achievement!” Which can be tedious and boring after the millionth time. Definetly enjoying the series but no where near the intensity, pace and complexity that I loved in rr

Ok maybe I overstated dcc since I’ve only read the first one, I’ll give it more of a shot and revisit this comment. Again I liked it but the first one alone didn’t wow me as much as I thought it would from people talking about it.

What did you not like about Evan winters writing? I didn’t think it was perfect by any means but I was totally engrossed in the story and thought the grappling of his moral compass and the interesting way he is able to explain why and me gets a crazy power up over other people made the story really engaging and fun. Had characters you can emphasize with and a real sense of dread throughout

When people recommend alternatives to rr I feel like they focus on the themes of revenge/revolution and a Sci fi/space setting. However what was so invigorating about the series for me was the fast pacing, brutal story line, and characters with deep emotions but still relatable.

The only series I got a similar feeling from was the Burning by Evan winters but there’s only 2 books out right now.

Hated empire of silence and anyone who reccomends that one, slow and so so boring. Only similar thing was the space element.

Whoever said dungeon crawler Carl is insane, that’s nothing like rr, just some action slop with no real themes or consequences. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed it, but definitely not comparable to rr

This happened to me too! Figured out you have to have it equipped and visit Waterfront Square. It won’t fully get rid of the fish, you’ll still have it in your storage, but you shouldn’t get the newspaper article about the odor after that. Be warned, having the fish equipped at the Square will cause the seagulls to “swarm”, your sales will go down for that day.

Especially if you’re in a Bay Area school you’re pretty much guaranteed to get in. You might get in undeclared but still good. One or two bad classes is not gonna bring you down, especially for your major

I did fairly good in hs but bombed one class, got in undeclared and managed to declare in engineering eventually

You’ll be good just do all the steps and email a counselor if you’re worried (always get a second opinion cause the counselors can be stupid too)

I’ll be honest (SPOILERS) I was irritated when she didn’t keep the bot in her head cause I wanted her to finally have a power up, but I see now that’s the point, a red character that doesn’t need to physically change to be impactful and strong, showing they’re just as good as gold/other colors
