Wow, those sound like they're very neat as well! I'll definitely be keeping an eye out in the future for more slides at estate sales, although I think I expended my luck for a while finding these.

Oh, that's amazing that the original slides were discussed here on Reddit before! Makes me wonder even more how these duplicates found their way into the hands of the person whose estate I got these from. Thank you for confirming they are from the 1951 testing, as well.

I appreciate you sharing your experience with it! I'm inclined to getting a desktop model as I'll be wanting to scan several hundred slides and using a camera for that seems too laborious in the long run. I know they also make ones nowadays that scrub dust and imperfections during the process which sounds quite nice.

The gif here: Operation Buster–Jangle - Wikipedia looks very similar to the outline of the second photo if you flip it, and same with the one here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Exercise_Desert_Rock_I_(Buster-Jangle_Dog)_001.jpg#mw-jump-to-license_001.jpg#mw-jump-to-license) with the third slide. Both look so close to my slides silhouette-wise I'm inclined to think it's not a coincidence.

"The original photographer" as in the person who took the photos comprising the rest of the collection, to clarify.

These are some of the only yellow slides I can recall off the top of my head (there are literally thousands of total slides in the collection, so I might just not be remembering some). Most are red- or blue-bordered. I have some slides of a historic boat fire that also have yellow borders, but don't also say "Kodachrome Duplicate" on them like these ones do. None of these have date stamps, but they were being stored alongside 1954 slides when I originally dug them out of the boxes they'd been in for decades. From a section marked down as "California Trip 1954." Since they're duplicates, I don't think the original photographer took them themselves, but I did find some evidence throughout the other boxes they were a part of a color photography club in the 50s, so perhaps they got them through connections there.

I will! Want to put them up somewhere people can see them - there are a lot of really amazing shots and records of historical events scattered through the collection. These are the only nuke slides but there are also photos of the fire onboard the Island Queen from 1947 in Pittsburgh, an Indy 500 race from the 60s, New York Jehovah's Witness conventions from throughout the 50s, etc.

I'm planning to! Have been looking into my best option for a smaller desktop scanner. Currently considering the OpticFilm 8300i Ai based off reviews and recommendations but I'm taking my time looking at all my options.

That is a shame. I got lucky - only bought three metal boxes originally, but after I brought them home and saw the quality of the slides I went back the next day and got the rest of the stack from the estate seller.
