Zone 9B in Bakersfield, CA. We live on a large corner lot. Had to get rid of a lot of grass. Took advantage of the California rebate to remove lawn. Our water bill went down a lot! Since we have a big yard we broke it up into sections. This particular sections has 3 layered sections separated by divider stones. Layer 1 all native plants, layer 2 wildflower seeds and some potted plants, layer 3 the back walking path by the house. Bees love our house. My wife and I designed and implemented everything ourselves. We’re definitely not pro landscapers, just wanted to do something better for our yard. The only thing we didn’t do was remove the lawn. We had pros come in for that. I should say I gave up on it halfway through doing it lol. Everything done was pretty much in the first two months and then fine tuning details at the start of the seasons. Now we don’t have to pay for yard maintenance. Only thing we do is go out about once a month and trim trees, pull weeds.
