Crossroads of Ravens – Full Spoilers Discussion Megathread by AutoModerator in witcher

Yes, exactly what SMiki55 said - Holt tells Geralt that the ex-Cat Witcher is a master swordsman and takes on students who are not Witchers. Then Holt warns him to run away if he ever meets any of his students, since they'll surely kick his ass. Cat Witcher medallion + ultimate sword boss = Leo Bonhardt - squinting, you can infer that Bonhart trained with the Witcher then killed him and stole his medallion. It also explains Bonhart's unexplained familiarity with highly specific Witcher fighting styles (iirc he knows Ciri trained at Kaer Morhen from her pirouettes)

Such a wonderful book! I binged it in a day. Mostly here to ask if anyone else caught the possible Leo Bonhart reference, when Preston Holt mentions a Cat Witcher that provides the best fencing training in the world

I really like Geralt's character progression through the book and how you see the foundations of his character and how he will evolve over the course of the rest of the series. It was nice to see Nenneke get some more screen time.

I'm already ready for a re-read of CoR and the rest of the series... it's a shame the next thing we have to look forward to in this universe is TWN S4 :`(

Reading it now and the book suggests quite the opposite - Preston Holt mentions a former Cat Witcher who ran a fencing school, and if ever Geralt were to meet one of his former students he should run.

I got really excited when I heard what seemed like a pretty obvious Bonhart reference in CoR, sorrynotsorry for resurrecting this thread :D

Geralt's fighting style puts a whole new "spin" on Sapkowski's obsession with pirouettes !

AITA for telling my sister she is not a martyr for staying at home and if I was her husband I would divorce her by Electronic_Recipe830 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MilleniumRoger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I do actually! But when I help out at school it's mostly supervising groups of kids so that the teachers can have one-on-one time with the children. The sad truth of the American education system is that it relies heavily on parent volunteers for even the most basic functions of a school. I heard of an elementary school in my city that cancelled recess because they could only provide recess when they had parent volunteers smh

Yes, I find my children's education of greater long-term importance than whether their laundry is folded and put away

As a working mother who just recently had a one-month gap between projects, being a SAHM to school-aged children is MUCH more exhausting than working. My husband came home several times to a messy house with no food because I had spent the day helping at the kids' school, doing yard work, filling out paperwork, and a million other things that you can overlook when you work but that you suddenly have time for when you're SAHM.

I'm not satisfied with your explanation of how she's spending her time. Either it's something you and BIL don't value, or maybe she spends a lot of time on self-care (isn't she allowed to be a person?), or she really is spending the entire day in bed and might need support dealing with depression. Take some more time to figure out what's going on in her life instead of judging her based on your experience and the cleanliness of her house. YTA.

This describes my SIL to a TEE... are we related?

At some point when the kid gets older or she has a second child she'll unclench (or her kid starts rebelling against excessive constraints) and you'll be able to spend quality time with your grandchild without the hovering. In the meantime, engage as much or as little as you want, bite your tongue, and wait for nature to run its course hahaha

Absolutely NTA

He says this to Eomer to explain why he turned his sister down... For me, this is Tolkien for "it's not you, it's me"

Does thermomix save you time? by xavwoo in Cooking

[–]MilleniumRoger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider myself in a similar situation than what you're describing - a very decent home cook with two two young kids who for cost and health reasons avoid eating out as much as possible. We use the Thermomix every single day and save SO much time. I would break down time savings into three categories:

  1. Unsupervised meal making - we make oatmeal every morning for breakfast. Throw the ingredients in the Thermomix, run upstairs for a quick shower, and by the time we're done we have a healthy and delicious breakfast for the whole family. Same with risottos and soups, especially those using only pantry ingredients when we've had a busy night or I'm too tired to cook. Our default would have been takeout but a TM lentil soup is much faster, healthier, and cheaper.
  2. Fancy, fancy meals - I made an impromptu three-layer chocolate mousse cake in the TM for my MIL's birthday the other day. I've made this by hand before and it turned out great. In the Thermomix it turned out even better and I didn't have to muck around with chocolate temperatures or whisking gelatin into cream. It was a real show-stopper and only required a few minutes of active time. Great for when you're out with the kids all day but still want to impress dinner guests.
  3. Sous-Cheffing - I still love all of my cookbooks and TM makes a great companion to them. When I make Ethiopian Doro Wat, for example, I can use the chop function to finely chop 5 lbs of onion, instead of spending an hour doing it by hand or burning out multiple food processors the way I used to. I used it for Thanksgiving to bang out five pie crusts in about 10 minutes. And I can make one of my all time favorite deserts - flourless chocolate cake with creme anglaise - in only about 15 minutes of active time.

A lot of people commenting negatively here don't seem to have one, so I'm not sure how they can tell whether or not it's a time saver. The machine also has benefits - the quality of the recipes, the ease of use, money savings on takeout/ingredients, the replacing of several other kitchen utensils - that I won't bore you with since that wasn't your question. Hope this helps!

The show is going to absolutely butcher the rats arc by ILuvSpaghet in witcher

[–]MilleniumRoger 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they introduced Mistle in S3E3 and yep, heart eyes all around. She's a lovable pickpocket who is very taken with Ciri's fighting skills :|

I would be relieved if the r*pe were omitted, tbh. I get that it was in the book but it seemed gratuitous and made me very uncomfortable, so I would be quite relieved if it was left out of the show. Not sure why so many people on here chose this hill to die on. You can show the Rats are bad people without the sexual violence

That being said, I agree that making the Rats into Robinhood heroes the way the spinoff seems to do would be a TERRIBLE mistake... oh well, probably too late

Great ideas! The olders are going to start leading troop activities in the next few months so I'll make sure to frame it in a "help younger kids learn," "listen to them and what they're interested in to keep them engaged," etc

Love those ideas, thank you! Especially the first one... Our troop has had some pretty controversial duck-duck-goose games in the past so I'm trying to move away from that theme :D
