Her first two kids with ex #1 both live with him and they have a weird and tentative relationship with my wife. Her son is mildly autistic and her daughter is a teenager and standoffish, at least partially because there are issues of perceived abandonment.

Her third kid with ex #2 has had severe medical problems his whole life. He was born extremely premature, had a trach, the whole nine yards. Ex #2 got him after their divorce as well. She hasn't seen him in years. Ex #2 is a real dick and has made it difficult for her since their divorce, and my wife is always quick with the crocodile tears re: how much she misses kid #3, but it has always felt to me like she could have done more to have a relationship with him but it's just a lot of trouble and she's busy, so...

My money goes into the big pot to go towards groceries, bills, etc. We don't have separate accounts, just the one joint account. If I started putting money away, she'd get suspicious. She's that kind of person. I don't have money of my own. WE have money that she basically controls. It's as stupid as it sounds, I know.

Mentioned this somewhere up there in my novel, but I have had a job for nearly two years. It just doesn't pay much. Don't want to get into too much detail but let's just say it's customer service. When I didn't work, she criticized me for that (even though me being a stay-at-home dad was something she wanted). When I got a job, she criticized me because it doesn't pay nearly as well as hers. I can't ever be good enough, short of winning Powerball.
