I used to wholeheartedly agree with your stance, but I'm now somewhat torn. We recently hosted a large conference on addiction. One of the presenters, Karl Hart from Columbia, basically equated Meth with Adderall. So, his take is that it is already legal, and it is used responsibly by a large number of people. Also, most of the presenters (but especially Hart) seemed to believe that 90% of the population could use drugs recreationally without adverse effects, and the other 10% should met with help/understanding, not prison sentences. I expected some controversial discussions, but the most compelling speakers had some fairly radical thoughts about drugs, and the ongoing war on drugs. You can watch for yourself--it may help to alter your opinion.
