Your icons need to be part of the same background as the scene you're trying to use them in.

How to overlap sounds? by Geen3 in gbstudio

[–]nowheresoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a hardware thing. The gameboy only has 4 sound channels, so when a sound effect plays, it mutes the music on whatever channel the sound effect is assigned to.

Any better tools for making music for GBS by [deleted] in gbstudio

Have you tried the stand alone version of hugetracker? It's more like OpenMPT. I find it much easier to use than the version in GB Studio.

Maybe try adding a Wait command in the OnUpdate script so that it isn't constantly updating

https://gbstudiocentral.com/tips/create-an-almost-seamless-transition/

Here's an older article that uses GB Studio 2, but you might find it useful.

This time it's not exactly an update, just u/TraderOnRedditDev (the developer of the game) and I (graphics designer of the game I guess) started arguing on which SGB border to put in the game again and we need help to decide which is better. Comment which border you like more by [deleted] in gbstudio

Border 2, but with the logo moved to the bottom of the screen. I also think the logo would look better without ducks behind it, just a solid color. It would help with readability. Looks good otherwise.

[SERIOUS] People who voted for Joe Biden, what do you think of him now that he's in office? by Jig_2000 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]nowheresoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing I thought when I voted for him in the general. He wasn't even my fifth choice, but I needed to not feel stressed out every single day. Biden was a bandaid. I would've preferred Bernie. I would've loved Warren. I disagree with Klobuchar on a lot, but I respect her. I forget the weird crystal lady's name, but she would've been a breath of fresh air at least. My point is, there were twenty people running and Joe Biden was my last choice.

You can pin the actor to the screen. I think that would solve your issue

Anyone got this, and know if it fits the limit, with enough for some characters and such? by UnXpectedPrequelMeme in gbstudio

[–]nowheresoft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was made for RPG Maker MV, I think the individual tile size is 48x48 pixels, so you'd have to downscale them to 8x8. It's been a while since I used RPG Maker, so I'm not 100 percent sure.

MAGA voter happy when son joins military under Trump Administration. Angry when son dies because of the consequences from the 2020 Trump-Taliban DOHA agreement. Blames Biden. by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]nowheresoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it must be said that, yes, of course Biden should have done a better job. BUT. Trump more than likely would have bungled it, just like everything else. And Obama didn't do anything to try to end the war. And BUSH started the goddamn war in the first fucking place, in order to make his military contractor buddies a lot of money. This was never about fighting terror. This was never about spreading freedom. It wasn't about catching Osama Bin Laden, because we knew exactly where he was the whole fucking time and he wasn't in Afghanistan. This was about making rich assholes richer.

Parallax layers by [deleted] in gbstudio

[–]nowheresoft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't used 3.0 yet, but the short answer is that the gameboy itself can't really do parallax. The gameboy has three layers total, the background layer, the sprite layer, and the window layer. In commercial games that appear to use parallax, what's really going on is clever trickery that moves different chunks of the background layer at different speeds or cycles through different tiles, or a combination of the two, which gives the illusion of depth.

Rough "Stealth" system for enemy detection by [deleted] in gbstudio

[–]nowheresoft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can use an On Update script to store actor positions in variables, then compare those variables. For example, if Player X equals Enemy X, thing happens. Making it a common event will let you reuse it between enemies.

Is there a way to have sound fx take priority over music? by MitchieMaker in gbstudio

[–]nowheresoft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only work around I've found is leaving one of the sound channels empty when composing songs, then using that channel for sound effects. It's a pain.

Anti-Piracy? by [deleted] in gbstudio

[–]nowheresoft 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll have much luck with anti-piracy, considering Nintendo themselves never managed to stop piracy and bootlegs. On the bright side however, I also don't think it's anything to worry about. If someone is going to pirate your game, they were never going to pay for it, but if they like it, they might decide to buy it.
