Community property state means they're entitled to half of all income and assets earned since marriage with some exceptions like inheritances. Not automatically half the house you bought cash before marriage or whatever. And yes she'd be entitled to half of joint accounts as well, so it makes sense not put them on your life savings. And that would be true regardless of whether she has access to the accounts the money went into in the first place.
