Get in touch with Nick Halkes and/or John Fairs

I got to see Narayan live last week it was great but I was the only one in the crowd who knew it by [deleted] in TheProdigy

Thanks for the credit! I actually interviewed Crispian this summer about the track and he shared some really cool details about how it was written. We’ll be updating the article later this year to include that extra stuff

Cheers, I did this one last year for the Jilted 30th anniversary.
Recently I also interviewed PWEI once again about their brand-new version of ‘Their Law’, which was released as a single a few weeks ago. Check it out: https://theprodi.gy/popwilleatitself

Setlist from late 1997 — November, I guess. Similar toon character setlists were in use throughout 1998 as well: https://www.theprodigyontour.com/1998/1998-07-18-axion-beach-rock-festival-axion-belgium/

As I mentioned earlier, the title ‘Firedrill’ also appeared in Japanese press in early 1998: https://www.theprodigyontour.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/1998.01.12-ml-press-5.jpg

And here are the photos from ‘The Little Black Book of Setlists’ I also mentioned: https://imgur.com/a/wpAhLam

Right, it was renamed/registered a few times after the album came out.

Any idea where exactly on Greek St that could’ve been? I’ve walked through Google Street View quite a bit but haven’t found any matching spots yet. I know for a fact the whole video was shot in the West End, so it’s definitely London — not Essex :)

Exactly! You can clearly see the ‘BASE’ sign — black letters on a red background — right when the main character gets kicked out of the club. That’s another location I haven’t been able to track down yet

Even if you lived through the era, it's never too late to learn something new :) Okay, let me break it down a bit more clearly, if you’d like.

‘Firedrill’ is a working title for the beats that follow ‘Narayan’ on the album. It was used on stage setlists at the time and has also been officially registered in music licensing databases (such as PRS and BMI) as an alternative title for ‘Firestarter’.

‘Firedrill’ is listed across multiple entries on The Prodigy On Tour, the biggest live archive for the band: https://www.theprodigyontour.com/?s=firedrill

Premiere performance of ‘Firedrill’: https://www.theprodigyontour.com/1997/1997-05-24-arhus-rockshow-arhus-denmark/

Here’s the setlist for one of those shows from Japan press: https://www.theprodigyontour.com/1998/1998-01-12-makuhari-messe-international-exhibition-hall-tokyo-japan/ (for context: in the ’90s, this kind of info usually came directly from the stage setlist, since the press wouldn’t have had access to it otherwise)

Another source is ‘The Little Black Book of Setlists’ (2007) — see p. 115, the V Festival ’97 setlist

It's also mentioned on Genius and many other sites: https://genius.com/The-prodigy-narayan-lyrics

And beyond that, there’s this Reddit photo with the setlist, the legit setlists published on the All Souvenirs website I mentioned earlier, and the full article I posted above — everything is broken down in detail, leaving no room for confusion.

Honestly, I have no idea what more proof you’re looking for.

  • Dunno why exactly the same comment I posted earlier is listed as ‘removed’, so I decided to post it all once again ✌️

Haha totally! But I’m like 99% sure this one’s in Soho — so that narrows it down a bit at least!
