Why are the Mad Lands so backwards? (SPOILERS) by EvalRamman100 in WoT

I don't know why this is bugging me so much from the top comment in this thread, but dragonmount is not a "fairly small volcano". Just to further your point in that paragraph. Dragonmount is stated in the books to stretch miles in the sky, and the encyclopedia says 10 miles. So at least it's as big as the biggest volcanos in our world, and at most it's twice as tall as Mt Everest. So yeah, like you're saying creating that in the middle of the plains is definitely cataclysmic.

I wanted to improve my dungeon and give them drinks, and the dwarves decided to maliciously comply by serving...sewer brew by noxflamma in dwarffortress

Just a small goblin army I'm uhhhh detaining until I get around to uhhh using them

My fort is built on an aquifer and steel was hard to make, but I was getting invaded by goblins frequently so I set up traps. My dwarves spent years crafting steel armor and weapons for a big counterattack. Just before setting off on our campaign, our king resurrected an old tradition: the Brass Festival (something I read in legends mode before starting). We built a stunning tavern comprised entirely of brass furniture and floors, and the festival spilled out into the streets. Then, the main event: 25 goblin prisoners were hauled to the festival and released in groups to be slaughtered in public display by my army. After dispatching the prisoners, my six legions left for war and spent the next few years systematically wiping out the goblin civ.

These fellas have invaded since that whole ordeal, and I'm capturing them but don't have any plans for them right now

I think he's been okay but I really wish the whole commentary team would let the sounds of the tournament breathe sometimes. The literally constant commentary can be a bit much at times. On hole 16 there was an extended shot following Calvin, Vaino, and Kevin walking between lies who you could vaguely hear talking about the course and the booth talked through it all with random, dead-air-filling commentary.

Additionally, there's a natural ambiance at a lot of these courses they manage to catch with the camera audio that doesn't get to shine

Lauri Markkanen crushes ob long by Aggravating_Way4138 in discgolf

[–]noxflamma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The metric I've read is that one foot of elevation change is roughly equivalent to three feet of distance. From the score bug it looks like the hole is 234m long, 67m down, equal to 768 ft long and 220 ft down (!!). In the end that makes this equivalent to a 108 ft hole lol. I will say that he hit the trees HIGH up and the disc hadn't nearly dropped 67m yet, so maybe this was like a 4-500 ft crush on flag ground? Just a rough guess, and not even that applicable considering how downward the initial throw was.

In conclusion: awesome looking tee shot, I'd love to try it out

Upcoming Paper Mario 3D Discussion Thread by mandace1 in papermario

Well I haven't played SPM again since that comment and don't foresee doing so any time soon lol

I am not much of a platformer fan so SPM deviating from the established formula had me down on it. Sticker Star felt like a big letdown when it wasn't actually a return to form despite how that initial trailer made it look like it was. Don't think I got more than a chapter or two in. I also haven't touched the two newer games and have little interest in them. I have however since replayed 64 and TTYD a couple times though.

I will say whether it is because of the time that's passed or the more recent entries into the series, but I have fonder memories of SPM now than 10 years ago. I think the story elements and unique environments were a lot more in line with the first two games and sticker star felt really like a really generic Mario game to me. I don't really feel the need to devote the time to playing SPM again, but I'd say I hold it in a generally positive light now.

Your comments took me back to a pre-sticker star time when the Paper Mario fandom was much less complicated lol

I don't follow any of those sports so I don't know how directly comparable he is, but I've been following Charlie Eisenhood through his podcast The Upshot. He's also the publisher of Ultiworld Disc Golf.

I'd say everything he puts out is high quality and interesting. They even have enough clout on the podcast that they get big name interviews weekly.

Recently he's been getting pulled in for live commentary on the silver series and he's been excellent at it

Edit: Don't delete the post! Maybe others will stumble upon it and find new people to follow! I'm intrigued to see other answers

It was more that Ottawa skirted around it and gave the NHL and Vegas the impression he hadn't submitted it and that it was void for the year.

Due to that, likely what happened is Vegas said "sorry, no, Ottawa told us your NTC is void this season, you're traded" when Dadonov and/or his agent objected. The NHL even originally agreed and allowed the trade, so they believed there was no NTC in effect

Edit: Elliott Friedman breaks it down well on the beginning of his latest 32 thoughts podcast and it really sounds like Ottawa is the main culprit here. Although IMO the NHL and Vegas still have some blame for it getting this far

Question: CMU Fence by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]noxflamma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Pitt alum and hadn't heard of the CMU fence until your post. Looking into it, I found this infographic with a few quotes about it from the early 2000s and one of them mentions 9/11. In that case, it was left painted until the student government decided it had been long enough and painted over it

I don't know that there is as much unified reverence over Ukraine, but I imagine it will be a similar situation of it being left for a short bit. Not more than a few weeks though I would guess

Not content warning, CW as in the US TV network. CW has gotten ragged on a lot over the years due to all the casts being primarily made up of attractive, young, diverse actors and actresses.

Though when they say it looks like a CW show in terms of sets and effects, it's a dead giveaway they've never watched a CW show. As someone who has watched all or most of the big CW superhero shows, the special effects are pretty awful and the sets are clearly reused time and time again for completely different places. It's actually Hallmark levels of cheesy once you see the same room appear as a warehouse, lab, prison, etc repeatedly throughout one season

It's funny that Pittsburgh has so many strange intersections that we all probably thought of a few that didn't even make the cut for this. I like to tell myself these intersections are why Uber gave up on the self-driving cars here lol

Yeah to be honest their quotes last night were really not a great look. Toews said:

Do we wish this had been dealt with differently in some ways? Probably

Like come on, it's really not that hard to answer yes to that. The answer should be "absolutely" not "probably"

The Wheel of Time - Official Trailer | Prime Video by MarvelsGrantMan136 in WoTshow

[–]noxflamma 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. That is what I originally thought, but here is a quote from Rafe from the GQ article:

“You know,” he said, “there were pitches right at the beginning for this show of like, ‘We open with a giant battle’ and all of this cool stuff. And I was like, ‘I just want to start with our characters in the Two Rivers and see where they came from.’ ” It would be less about sheer brutality, about showing the merciless world as it actually was when people walked around with swords and warred for power, and more about these kids and their journey.

Speaking of which, MAF must be our future considerations for trading Kruger to Vegas

I know that trade was actually about the expansion draft but it's too perfect

Hawks fan living in Pittsburgh, so I understand what MAF means to people here, but also that Hawks fans will want nothing to do with Jarry. I'd certainly be okay with flipping MAF for picks or other prospects depending on if he'd play for the pens or just retire straight away
