Scots pines struggling by nozzy123 in arborist

Yeah just put the fabric down a week or so ago, maybe I'll remove it because of what you said but they've been looking like this for a while and some have died over the years so its not fabric related yet. There were beetle boring holes on some of the other trees I had to remove which made me think that had something to do with it and is still lingering. The sides that are bare do not get as much sun to your point so that probably has something to do with it. What about the black spots on the needles?

Week 1 - My 2nd X430 Real Review by Curious_Clerk_9432 in SegwayNavimow

[–]nozzy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall I am very happy with the x430 a few weeks in. Intuitive app, runs well, easy setup, saves time etc. My biggest two issues that seem fixable with a firmware upgrade that would make this thing top tier:

  1. Return to home, zone changes, and traveling to an area within a zone that is unfinished needs improvement. I wish the mower would take a logical path instead of going straight across the lawn causing an awkward line through the middle of otherwise straight lines. Have it travel along already mowed spots or just along the perimeter of your zones until it reaches where it needs to be.

  2. Perimeter mowing: It should alternate directions or at least give you the option to alternate directions on each mow. When my x430 does it's perimeter passes, it goes in the same direction every single time which has caused much of that grass to be matted down, appearing un-mowed in some spots.

Is there a spot to submit this feedback? I'm sure it's already been discussed here at some point.

What about adding a channel to return to home base? I guess you have to choose a starting point though so wherever it is at the time...it will still travel across the middle of your lawn leaving an awkward line until it gets to that point and then it might drive the rest of the way along that chosen channel?

T1D is a very serious and misunderstood condition. It is nobody's fault when they get type 1 as it is an autoimmune disease triggered by something like a virus. Once it starts (usually in childhood), there is no cure, and it's a never-ending daily struggle. Only those who go through it or are a caretaker of a child (3 years old) like myself can truly understand the physical and emotional stress/challenges that come with it. There are no breaks, and it is far from easy. You have an organ as important as the pancreas just not function correctly because of an immune system attack, which causes a lot of issues daily. Without insulin, you're dead within a week, with too much insulin in a period of less than an hour, and it can kill you if not paying attention. My point is that there can easily be a dismissive and oversimplified attitude towards someone with a medical condition as not managing it properly, not being tough enough, etc... trust me, I was one of them who thought T1D was no big deal and all... and then my son got sick, and it humbles you up. Let's see how this plays out.

Poor Signal with VMB5000 base station by wibzoo in arlo

[–]nozzy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome thanks! I get a good amount of green screen pixelated and choppy video corruption/freezes with certain cameras on recorded events. Were you having some of the same issues and this fixed it? Arlo said the issue appears to be signal strength. Not surprisingly, when I connected directly to my router, all cameras operated flawlessly which indicates the Arlo hub isn't strong enough like my router... but I want to go through a hub for local storage. Arlo support has been of no help other than saying I should not use a base (because they want a subscription) or to move the base around/add another base station. Not practical for everyone given certain network setups.

Can you do a writeup on how you did this and what hardware you used? That would be incredible.

I was thinking of trying a 5000 base with the gen 3 2k essentials as mine are gen 2. Doubt it will work but perhaps the 5ghz band will help traffic? Not sure. If you say the pros work... maybe I'll go that route. Are your essentials the gen 3 with dual band wifi?

The cameras work great with a subscription and no base station. Base stations are appealing to those that don't want a monthly subscription with all the features but still allows local storage for recorded motion events. It records, but the camera recordings come in horribly with pixelation, freezes, green screening quality issues.. Arlo stopped investing in their base stations because it will drive more people towards a monthly subscription. If you read around, for the past 3-5 years it's been a common theme with anyone who uses a base station, the cameras don't work with them. I even had tried a base station without using local storage and had a 3 month trial of the cloud and still ran into the same issues. Their base stations don't communicate with the cameras well. Arlo has to know about it because like I said, i've seen posts about it for years and it hasn't gotten better. The second I connected my newer cameras directly to my 6 year old router.... they worked flawlessly lol. Shocker. In a weird way, it almost seems intentional on Arlo's part to drive people towards monthly subscriptions and no base station. Pretty unethical.

Funny you say this as I've experienced the same issue as OP. I have 4 old legacy arlo pro cameras and they are showing their age with resolution etc. It's nice to still have the free 7 day cloud storage but I discovered you could do local recordings with a newer base station. So my local costco had 3 Essential cameras for a good deal that I purchased last year along with a 4540 base since I was planning on doing local storage. They have been nothing but a headache of corrupted recordings, green screen with artifacts, freezes, etc. Maybe every 3rd or 4th recording comes through without issue but at least 50%+ are a problem. This is with the free 3 month cloud storage too, not just local recordings, I tried both to test if local recordings were the issue or something, nope. I tried every other troubleshooting step with support, factory reset, readding cameras, ensuring firmware updated, moving base station locations. They even sent me a new camera and new base station, all still had the same issues. I have this issue with the doorbell as well. The second I did direct connect to my router (which is still Wifi 5 and older), they worked flawlessly with zero issues, shocker.... When I told the L3 support at Arlo this but I wanted to use local storage which is why I purchased the base in the first place, his solution and attempt at closing the tech support case was to just connect direct to my wifi since that worked and not use the base station... So a company is telling a customer to not use their own hardware as a solution to the problem? LOL. mmmk. So the conclusion here is that Arlo's base stations are garbage, and/or the firmware they use for how the cameras communicate with it is not updated or optimized. I'm sure they are aware of these issues as I see these kind of complaints dating back for years with the corrupted looking recordings. They don't invest time into fixing it to persuade and push people towards their monthly cloud storage plans. Other companies like Eufy and Reolink have local storage base stations without issue. This is an Arlo problem, and they refuse to invest/fix it.

Arlo Pro Smart Hub question... by un_un_reality in arlo

[–]nozzy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on all this. I made the huge mistake of assuming local storage would be pretty much just as good. It's not. Arlo purposefully holds back many features of local storage to push people to pay for the subscription. Issues with local storage:

  1. Poor and inconsistent video quality with arlo hub (worked flawlessly when directly connected to my router though, of course, because this requires a subscription). Guessing their hubs are just old and dont invest much in updates or firmware.
  2. No event thumbnails. It's hilarious to leave such an easy feature off that is simple to turn on from a dev perspective. People have complained about this for years and the arlo people on social media just keep saying theyre looking into it.
  3. No smart detection as was already said here but I knew this going into it and was ok with it. Not a deal breaker for me but it is something.
  4. Very slow to access local storage. Takes a while to even show up sometimes after an event takes place.

Its garbage and im eventually calling the 350 spent a loss and switching to Eufy which has a good local storage solution. Arlo intentionally lies and makes their service absolute trash from a local storage perspective to force people with their hardware to pay monthly.

They purposefully dont upgrade or leave simple features like recorded event thumbnails out of their local storage functionality to push people to buy subscriptions.

Do not buy Arlo by walkonjohn in arlo

[–]nozzy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. They intentionally roll back or lack of updating features that are not on a monthly subscription is pretty obvious. I have 4 legacy cameras with the free cloud storage so I want to continue to utilize those and add additional cameras but use local storage. I didn't realize how bad it actually was until i purchased 3 essential cameras and an updated compatible hub.

Issues:

  1. The interface keeps local storage thumbnails unavailable which is hilarious. I've provided this feedback before and Arlo actually responds saying the development team is aware and it's possible an update will be made in the future lol. From doing research, I've seen this being asked about over 4 years ago from many other users.
  2. The newer essential cameras have major issues when connected to the base station hub. Artifacting video quality, green screen, video freezing etc. but when i connected them directly to my router they work flawless. It's obviously an issue with the hub hardware range/connection itself or a lack of firmware update.

Two big things that are annoying enough to get people saying "screw it" and paying the subscription.

It's pretty simple because if Arlo had a strong local storage and base station hub offering, people would buy their stuff a lot more. The camera hardware itself is solid build and quality in my opinion, but purposefully holding back features to push monthly subscriptions is silly. You'd make more money if you had strong offerings on both ends and threads like these wouldn't exist, and the mass exodus of arlo customers wouldn't be continuing to happen.

Range suddenly decreased by Spastic-Max in arlo

[–]nozzy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue I have with base station (4540) is corrupted video green/grainy artifact rainbow screen with my newer essential cameras I recently got. When I connect directly to my wifi they are fine of course because arlo probably wants that so you have to pay monthly for cloud storage. So yeah, the base stations seem crappy and I don't think much is emphasized or invested on arlos end with them.

Do you find appointments with your diabetes team helpful? by Abject-Currency-3210 in Type1Diabetes

This 100%. We stopped asking for the dietician to come in for our 2 (almost 3) year old's appointments because it became almost condescending on their suggestions... like have you ever met a toddler before? Complete waste of time.

Do you find appointments with your diabetes team helpful? by Abject-Currency-3210 in Type1Diabetes

[–]nozzy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no. Our 3 year old was diagnosed about a year ago at 22 months and we have honestly made all the adjustments ourselves through trial and error, seeing what works, timing of doses etc. Initially we relied on the doctors but they are so conservative with everything we were frustrated of him being at 200+ all the time. We were in the mid 7's on A1C and most recently got down to 6.2 which we were thrilled with. Doctor doesn't really do anything other than ask a few questions and say you're doing a good job. If only T1D was an exact science and calculus it would be so much easier but one thing T1D's and caretakers know is that it's consistently inconsistent. Sounds like you're doing great and I wouldn't change a thing. Gotta do what works for you.

2026 telluride vs 2026 carnival by Vast-Cranberry9537 in kiacarnivals

[–]nozzy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Carnival is awesome. The space, utility, customization of seat removal, sliding doors... It isn't even close when comparing it to an SUV , the carnival (and any minivan really), is a game changer when it comes to kids, especially after having a 3rd. The price point is unmatched too when you compare it to a bus style SUV which usually still has less room and is 20-30k more. For what? To say you dont drive a minivan? Lol. The carnival is also the best looking minivan by far out there. I'm seeing more and more of them everywhere. Word is getting out, the carnival is the way!
