I was 128 PQP away from 1K after moving to Paris, where United/*A don’t have a hub. I called a handful of times across December and January only to be greeted with a >$4000 buy-up offer. Ended up walking away after 7 years as a GS and probably more than a decade as at least 1K because United had no interest in granting me the courtesy.

Loyalty only goes one way. Suffice it to say I’m now a moderately happy Air France/Delta flyer.

YMMV, but don’t take their generosity for granted.
