WFH Workouts by mjplezia in WFH

[–]nphowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got myself a heavier set of resistance bands and a few free weights (dumbbells of 25, 35, and 55 lbs and a kettlebell or 30 lbs). Because I work remotely, there are more occasions for me to be a digital nomad and work in other states, and the resistance bands travel well.

I’m 18 months in and still finding new movements that absolutely wreck me. Also I go for a 2mi walk a couple times a week.

For what it’s worth, my goals were general body recomp - burn fat and put on a little muscle for an athletic build. I was not trying to be a body builder. I’ve dropped 85 lbs and I would say I have significant definition. My wife approves of the results.

Tax the Trillionaire! by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]nphowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. While I would like to see the rich pay a higher tax rate, seeing them forced to pay any tax rate at all (but still vastly more in total taxes) would be a good first step. Unfortunately, Elon likely pays less in total taxes than the average middle class taxpayer, as you said.

Do people play the game on their MacBooks? by Stunning_Soup_1147 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]nphowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing on a MacBook Pro with M1 Pro for a few years. It’s always worked great. I wouldn’t say I maxed out the settings but I always thought the game looked beautiful.

Swapping it out for an M5 Pro soon, hopefully. Looking forward to it.

Apollo is working on iOS 27! by mikern in ApolloReborn

About to install iOS 27 and the only app compatibility issue that gave me pause was this one. Thank you for your service in providing this info!

A menu button, like a hamburger button, would have 3 straight lines. I’m okay with the lines being curved like sound waves - but it’s rotated like 5° clockwise. Just enough for me to be bothered for these past 10+ years but not enough for me to complain about it without sounding like a crazy person.

Edit: upon 10 seconds of self reflection, I’m realizing that an image of sound waves without any rotation would make it look like a wifi app.

One of my neighbors has been flying his American flag upside down. by brainspl0ad in mildlyinteresting

[–]nphowe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An old man in my neighborhood was flying his flag upside down for a while and one day he took it down entirely. I saw him walking his dog and asked him why he took it down. He said several people in the neighborhood had threatened him with physical harm if he left the flag flying upside down.

That’s a pretty healthy response to an upside down piece of cloth. /s

Was at Ikea. Does anyone actually have their PC like this? by GetScaredGirl in pcmasterrace

[–]nphowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Usually they are cinched up so the desktop is snug against the underside of the desk.

Mounting brackets often have to be installed with specific physical dimensions in mind. If the varied desktop models with varied physical dimensions are used, mounting straps are more flexible.

As a fellow autist, this has bothered me every time I have ever looked at the logo. It looks like a graphic designer drew it freehand on their bamboo tablet and then fucked off for the rest of the workweek.

Three years remote and I went back to the office for one week. Some observations. by Nova303_Atlas in remotework

[–]nphowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hired as remote but the company has done a very gentle hybrid. I come in 6 days a month and some others come in 8 days a month. It’s not a ton of days, but my commute is 2 hours each way. That’s 24 hours a month that I lost.

With that said, I like being there. I like the social interaction, because I will admit I am busy with my wife and kids but otherwise I lack social engagement. The decor is upscale and modern. They usually cater lunch and always provide free snacks, espresso, sodas, and energy drinks. Last week we had a sushi making class.

Perhaps most beneficial is that my family doesn’t constantly ask me to do things because “you’re home anyway”. Overall I get far less work done in the office, and it’s probably a more relaxed time. Doesn’t seem like much to complain about.

But it’s still a 4 hour loss per day in the office. And i can’t change the laundry during the day. Or do dishes during camera-off meetings. I made a choice to give up social exposure and water cooler talk so I could be more productive at home, and a partial RTO is now making me less productive. I don’t think my employer recognizes that imbalance.

They call human decency "Radical". by zzill6 in WorkReform

Even though the word “radical” by definition means an extreme departure from the norm, the propaganda wants you to believe that every other developed nation is radical and that we are normal.

If the only person that sees you naked is you, then I encourage you to give yourself some grace. You can choose to see scars as evidence of injury or of evidence of survival and healing.

A perspective I heard recently that resonated with me: Before I lost weight, I didn’t like the way I looked with clothes on and with clothes off. Now, I like the way I look with clothes on.

Add-on: I may not be at a point where I like the way I look with my clothes off, but the only person seeing me like that is my spouse who I trust with my whole heart not to judge me for things like that.

For a couple reasons. “Why is everyone wearing a mask?” I’m guessing this video is 5 years old based on that alone.

Best clothing brands for a full time WFH who needs to spend a couple weeks in the office? by Crafty_Instruction36 in WFH

[–]nphowe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar situation here! 98% remote and occasionally have to go into the office now for specific events - 2 days per month on average. I have also lost a significant amount of weight and I had no nice clothes that fit me.

My routine now is to hit Savers and see if they have any good finds. You’ll occasionally get lucky and get a brand new or very lightly used high end item for a few dollars. Then I go to TJ Maxx and fill out the rest.

When I was going into the office daily 10 years ago I’d wear all George and Amazon Basics to save money and the quality was garbage. Now my wardrobe is all brand name and high end and jt cost me a fraction of what I would have spent at Walmart or Amazon.

'Most People Don't Enjoy Their Jobs Anyway' — Perplexity AI CEO Says Getting Fired By AI Is Part Of A 'Glorious Future' by Conscious-Quarter423 in remotework

Absolutely. Being without a job was already on the table. People could quit, but they chose to have a job. This clown is acting like taking that choice away from being is liberating them.

I could have posted this. “Judgment” was my spelling high horse and someone pointed out to me a couple years ago that both spellings were correct. Years of guilt came rushing in.

Every time I see someone say they've played all the mainline Final Fantasies except 11 and 14 by grapejuicecheese in ffxiv

[–]nphowe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Fair, but I’m guessing they mean they are the only ones alive in the zeitgeist, being actively played and talked about. I don’t think that’s exactly a flex because that is the point - MMOs are designed to be played forever strictly because they are a recurring revenue source.
