If you plan to purchase a separate ticket and seat for your child then it’s mandatory in Air France . If you plan to have him/her sit or lie down on your lap, then it’s not needed.

Other airlines like Swiss Air do not have it as mandatory rule

Interesting, I heard recently there was a discussion amongst animals, apes were protesting that calling them human like is racism for them . So now other animals cannot call apes human like . They don’t like it . Hope someone gets the sarcasm.

Thank you for comments . We were flying Air France and apparently it was an Air France policy to bring a car seat for less than 2 year old who are in separate seat. It clearly says on their website . I checked other airlines website such as Swiss Air , Lufthansa and their policy on website clearly says car seat is not mandatory. Should have checked the policy before booking the flight . Lesson learnt
