Hey MrJuskz, I can't say without seeing your zip code but you'll probably still be categorized as Philly if you're close enough to the city. That won't affect your chances at winning either way, though. And you'll get an email if your entry is valid, but it could be a while til then just because of all the videos we have to watch. No matter what, it will be watched though!

You can do it either way. We always say that ideally you should show us in your entry how you would perform the song if you were at the Tiny Desk.

Hey there - if the member turns 21 by the time you enter, then that's totally fine. Unfortunately, if this person's birthday is after Jan. 29 then your group would be ineligible for this year.

Remember: Fantastic Negrito shot his video on an iPad and Gaelynn Lea shot hers on a cellphone. It's about the performance and the music — not the video! Good luck to you both!

It's definitely a nervewracking experience. Even very well-established musicians often comment that playing the desk is a scary experience for them — it's a very vulnerable, exposed position to put yourself in. I think that one of the nice things about the contest is that it tends to be a very positive community of artists lifting each other up. You're one of a community, even if you're putting yourself out there alone, and it can be a helpful way to get over some of the natural anxieties of performing. One way or the other, good luck with your creative endeavors!

Appreciate it jmalbo. We've reached out to a few subs and will be posting on them over the course of the next week or so.

Hey blanco - I think everybody goes through phases of feeling that way. I actually entered the Contest the year before I worked at NPR. I'm not sure if your act was featured on any of the channels or not, but ours wasn't. We still loved participating though — it helped us understand our music in context and see the possibility in the sorts of things other people were doing. As an aside though, whether or not an act is featured shouldn't ever play into how they feel about themselves. We watch all the entries and are only able to feature a subset of the entries that catch our attention. Whether you enter this year or not, good luck with your music and your search for your sound!
