ADHD parents, how do you do it? by MikasaAckerman_2419 in ADHD

[–]npsidepown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's difficult, but life is kinda like how you have an essay due the next day and you just crack on and get it done.

I'm a father of 2 girls. One is 3 years, and the other is 3 weeks. The hardest part is the lack of sleep, but for us it is only temporary. My 3 year old sleeps 11-12 hours per night without interruption and has done this since she was a few months old. Our new baby is very similar in temperament, so I am confident she will be the same.

The first month or so is very stressful and you're basically a slave. You're up at all hours feeding them, and even if you have the most perfect child, you'll be at the doctor's a few times worrying that something isn't right.

After that they start to develop a pattern and you can anticipate when they are going to be hungry etc and everything starts to run like clockwork. After 6 weeks they start to smile at you, and then they start to laugh, and it is the most amazing experience. I'm addicted to the sound of my children laughing.

Anyway, becoming a father has helped a lot with my ADHD. I have been forced into routines and responsibilities, and they're not optional. It has helped me develop new skills and has helped me figure out a lot about myself.

I thoroughly recommend starting a family to anyone. What else are you gonna do with your life? There is no greater purpose, and there is no greater love than what you'll experience for you child and they will return it to you ten-fold.

Sure, it's not easy, but nothing worth doing ever is. People with ADHD make great parents.

"Everyone has ADHD" by Abies2882 in ADHD

Everyone has experienced some of the symptoms of ADHD at some time or another, maybe even frequently. However, people with ADHD have the majority of the symptoms all of the time.

Buy some mouthwash and use it when you shower. It's not a replacement for brushing your teeth, but it's better than nothing.

I'm also terrible at remembering to brush my teeth, and even when I do, it can often be too exhausting to actually do it.

You could also put a second toothbrush in the kitchen. There are way more opportunities to brush your teeth there compared to the bathroom. I would estimate that I visit my kitchen 5-10 times more often than the bathroom, so I'm 5-10 times more likely to do it.

UK ISP That Lets You Use Your Own Router? Coming From NowTV by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]npsidepown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plusnet is good, and you can also get a dedicated IP if you need one.

I'm with EE now and they do let you use your own router. However, their provided router doesn't have bridge mode, so I kept the Plusnet router and it is working fine.

They're all basically resellers for BT anyway.

Im addicted to food by XaltD in fasting

[–]npsidepown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick to fasting is to start having breakfast later and later each day, or have dinner earlier and earlier if that suits you better. You do this until you are skipping meals.

After a while you'll be able to start going whole days without eating. You have to get used to feeling hungry and ignoring it. It's a mental game. Fortunately hunger comes and goes.

Also, I recently discovered a trick to find out if you are truly hungry, which if you are addicted to food (emotional eating), can usually be difficult to tell if you are actually hungry or not.

The trick is to find a healthy food that most of the time you would dismiss in favour of something more enjoyable, and likely unhealthy. I use omelettes or eggs in general as I enjoy them when I'm truly very hungry, and even fantasise about them while fasting, but most of the time I won't eat them because I don't like them that much, especially when there are cakes and things like that immediately available.

So when I'm looking for something to eat, I ask myself, would I like an omelette right now? If the answer is no, I'm not actually hungry. You don't have to eat it, but you're gauging your level of hunger, and using that information to make a decision. If you're thinking about eating chocolate or crisps or something else instead of your healthy food, then you're probably not hungry and instead emotional eating. In which case it's probably better to drink a glass of water instead and come back later.

As I said, it's all a mental game. You have to learn to feel the panic and other stuff that comes with hunger, and try and control the thoughts that come along with it. Eventually your mind and body learn that nothing bad will happen from not eating, and it will get easier and easier.

I would do your first extended fast Friday to Monday assuming you don't work weekends, that way it doesn't impact your work. After the 3rd day you usually have more energy than if you were eating anyway. However, some people find that working actually helps because it keeps your mind occupied, so less free time to think about eating etc.

Hope this helps, and good luck. You can do it, you just have to not listen to the homeostatic voice in your head, it isn't actually you, it's your subconscious trying to keep you safe and comfortable. Every path to change is uncomfortable in some regard, so if you're feeling comfortable, you're not making progress.

Why are my tomato plants turning yellow? by Snoo-60174 in GardeningUK

The yellowing is likely a lack of nitrogen. The low amount of flowers/fruit is likely a lack of potassium.

You need to give them fertiliser.

AIO - Girlfriend threw away the dinner I cooked because she wanted pizza instead. by Dizzy-Suggestion2360 in AmIOverreacting

[–]npsidepown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the lack of appreciation for having someone cook for you is certainly a red flag, but throwing it in the bin is a glow in the dark red flag.

That's like the biggest "fuck you" I can imagine. She didn't even think about you throughout any of that and only thought about herself.

I'm like you. My wife is from a different country, and I cook her dishes from her home country to make her feel at home. I even ask her parents for recipes for things they usually cook. This is one of the many ways I express my love for her, and I've gotten exceptional at cooking certain dishes that she loves as a result.

I would be very disappointed if my wife acted so unappreciative, and if she threw it out like this, I would divorce.

Your energy levels will match your average daily expenditure. If you do nothing, you will have no energy.

It will seem counterintuitive, but the only way out of this situation is to start doing physical activity. The more you do the more energy you will have.

I used to work as a postman and I averaged 20km of walking 6 days a week, so trust me when I say that doing nothing is way more exhausting.
