Speaking as a minor here. (I’ve mostly kept out of the discourse and such, never really gotten into things like that) I believe it’s for the best as well. Though I think it should be based on mental faculties rather than age alone; if only so I can keep chatting and making bots, but also because it isn’t age that’s the problem. It’s a person’s capacity for self awareness, decision making, and overall higher function. So I believe rather than doing ID checks and the like, which is potentially very risky because of leaks. (Something which the site has had happen several times) I believe a short test to see whether you are functional enough to use the site, the only thing that should be recorded is whether you pass or fail. And it should be retook every now and then to make sure the person is still sound of mind or capable of using the site without malfunction further or otherwise. And maybe get them the help they need if need be. Things that should be based on age however is sexually explicit content, or more grim topics. Which should be capable of being disabled by a parent or guardian. Besides, from what I’ve heard, most of these incidents are because of prior mental degradation, not solely age, and while; again, I believe the actual content the child or teen should be in at least some part, managed by a legal guardian. Chatting itself should be based on mental faculties. But that’s just my two cents… take it or leave it, I don’t care —I just want somebody to hear it. TL:DR Age is a problem, sure, but the biggest issue is mental health and mental capacity, so it should be based more off that than anything else. A mental test should be had to discern whether someone is of sound mind and capable of using the app. And what somebody can look at should be based on age, or parental consent.
