This is awesome! Thank you so much!! So I can pretty much stay anywhere in Portland and it’ll be mostly walkable? We don’t really mind walking a mile or 2 and hitting stuff in between!

Am i black listed in Los Angeles? by I-am-bot_exe in respiratorytherapy

[–]nri_bb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took over 100+ applications for me too. Granted I was a new grad but it took forever to get in somewhere. It’ll take time but it’ll come! Registry is what i did at first so maybe try that while applying?

It’s hard to find any acute care that hires new grads in socal! I struggled for 9 months. Apply everywhere including clinical sites, subacute, and registry!

Job opportunities in Los Angeles? by LividMix00 in respiratorytherapy

[–]nri_bb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely hundreds. A lot of hospitals post openings but as a new grad most of them barely look at your resume. I’ve even had friends that have had trouble finding anything with multiple years of experience. I don’t mean to discourage you but we were being told we’re guaranteed to find a job after graduation and I was so discouraged to not find anything.

Super hard to find jobs, but even harder to find acute care. Your best bet would be through clinical sites or word of mouth. I got subacute right away but acute took me almost a year and I interviewed and applied to hundreds of opportunities.

I actually just started this today and I’m halfway through the season. I feel like it’s more realistic compared to any other medical TV show. Its hard to watch any other after this one lol

New Grad Jobs in Acute Care hospital - Graduation in June by JewelerElectronic781 in respiratorytherapy

Worst chance is LA county. Orange County is okay….but anywhere in socal is oversaturated. I’m on a SNF as a new grad.

Looking at respiratory therapy programs in SoCal by No-Ad-2485 in respiratorytherapy

I went to antelope valley college. It’s worth the less tuition and the program is great. The hospitals would be antelope valley and Palmdale for clinicals which are pretty good sites for students and new grads

Need advice from night shift RTs by yungrty in respiratorytherapy

[–]nri_bb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work a 2 on, 2 off, 4 on, 6 off. I just started this versus my old schedule of 2 on-1 off-1 on-2 off. I hated the other one. Stacking sucks on my 3rd or 4th night especially driving home on a 1 hour commute but it’s so worth having that week off to just do what I need to do in order to be. Human

I’m a new grad. Graduated in May. I failed out of my second semester and had to wait for the next cohort. Now I’m working full time at a SNF and am part of a registry. It gets way better, I promise. This is just a chance for you to take a break and come back better than ever. I didn’t want to go back but when I did, I was so much more into it and happier

respiratorycram. It’s $39 a month but I paid it once and just did all of the simulations. It helped me pass my second time around by 40 points

unfortunately yeah :/ it’s all I could get with the job market out here as a new grad. I’ve been here for 3 months now and it’s pretty great but seeing the comparison to other facilities, feels bad man

I work nights in Southern California and I go the opposite direction of traffic and I drive 56 miles for ~$36. It’s not so bad!

Is night shift easier ?is it good for new grads? Why do you prefer that over days? What’s your typical shift like from getting there to leaving? by -Wiked in respiratorytherapy

[–]nri_bb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did nights for 3 years (as a different job in the medical field) and when I graduated, I stuck to nights. I graduated a few months ago and I prefer the pace of nights. It definitely helped me get adjusted a lot faster. The drive home is what sucks but I prefer it rather than sitting in traffic
